Nz 70 rr

Looks like you had a great time! Car looks awesome and it looks like you got to see plenty of other awesome rides along the way! I have pics saved of that tubbed/procharged hemi - RR from another website... love that thing hahaa
Was fun and that RR was a real magnet. Sounded awesome too, each night cars would cruise the main street which had 2 roundabouts 1/2 mile apart. You could do as many laps as you wanted and even unhook your pipes for some extra noise.

Looks like a great trip, albeit with some rain - hope the wipers were trouble free! 800 miles without issue is great, and a testament to how well the car went together. I am worried about my tranny too after I dropped it, so we will see what kind of startup issues I have when eventually I get mine on the road.

Congrats on what looks like a momentous trip!

Thanks Hawk, wipers did play up, go for a bit then stoop. We would reach under the dash and move the arms and it would go again. 2nd day we cleaned the earths up and took the passgr wiper off so as not to stress the motor. Perfect from then on.
Took a trip to my mopar guy today and he took car for a spin. Said the tranny is just 45yrs of wear and easy to rebuild. Will do this over winter. Fingers crossed yours will be fine.

Great stuff Tony. Wish I was there. Stuck at work. Never mind, next year. Glad the runner went well. Must be a good feeling. Congrats.

hi Jase, I am hooked and am keen to go again next year, will start putting some money away each week. Will hold you to your commitment to next year. I wish I hard got your ph number as I would have stopped and said hello when we drove through Tauranga. Damm that last minute rush.

Awesome! Looks like it was a heck of a fun trip. Good to see you out enjoying your Plymouth.

Thanks Propwash, couldn't resist taking her out again today, got plenty of businesses to visit and thank. Very addictive drive these cars.

good looking bird , looks like you had a very good time ,some very nice cars and country side photos too thanks for sharing them with us :headbang:

Cheers snakeyes, even though i am a mopar guy it was great to look at all the different cars. I saw my old 68 mustang there and caught up with its owners. Saw a real cool 59 Mercury Commuter there . It was from Montana USA, owner put a clear coat over the burnt paint , replaced the worn running gear and it looked great. Could see myself in it, craigs list here I come.

steering wheel

Picked up this steering wheel from a fellow 70 RR owner. Is it a 70 wheel ? Wheel fits on the spline but how do I secure the centre piece. Area in the red box has a been bent ? so the centre piece is not flat. Do I flatten this.
The centre cap - i have circled 2 small lugs that I assume line up to 2 of the holes in the wheel centre ?

I have put the rims/tires that came with the car back on.

Seat backs were in a bad way so I covered them with vinyl.

Rim needs some repairs but will look good.

Wow what a pain that all must have been but CONGRADULATION on getting some good seat time and finally enjoying the fruits of your labor. The RR looks beautiful in that Orange with the Black hood, job well done! Last year was my maiden voyage so I know the feeling, very satisfying.

Thanks 747mopar. It is hard to describe the feeling sometimes, for so long I would head to the garage to fix something, now I can grab the keys and drive.
The bonnet will gets its finishing over winter/spring. The spray can look will do for now, I do like the all black look but will do the traditional black center stripe. If I want a black hood i will have to buy a fibre glass one.

Hi Tony,

Steering looks good - looks just like my steering wheel except for the center emblem! I think they are great looking steering wheels, and I like that they match the wood grain handle of the pistol grip shifter too...

nice wheel. and I am digging that you are getting some cool miles on the car.

Thanks for posting the pic of your wheel Hawk , am stoked that my wheel is correct. Will spend some time on it this afternoon. Get her out for a drive too, will visit the guy who i purchased her from.

cheers a68postcar, am having fun.

Steering wheel is on, was missing the 3 original screws that hold the horn cap bracket to the wheel but found some to fit. Off for a drive now.

photo opp

Talked my partner into driving the Challenger so I could get a couple of photos of both cars, we went down to the port area. I don't know who was more nervous, her or me. Bit different from her S40 Volvo but she did great.

Hi HYRDGOON, you could be right , better change the lock on the garage maybe. Would solve the "why have 2 cars when you can only drive one at a time".

Made up a fan guard for the radiator , am rather attached to my fingers. Oneday I will get a authentic radiator.

Sounds good Tony. next time you come through we will hook up. Just PM me your phone numbr before you come

rims

Had the battery go flat on me twice . Had it tested and it checked out fine so must have a power drain. Put a clamp on the negative post that has the ability to open and close the circut with a turn of the green wheel. I can now use the car when I want and hunt out the fault.

My ideal rim is a black steelie but not in my budget this year so today I prepped and painted my alloy rims with great results. Love the mean look of the black rim.

I like the rims Tony, they go well with the car and compliment the orange.

For your battery drain issue, I would suggest you start by hooking up a multi-meter to measure current flowing from the battery. Assuming you show a small draw, then slowly pull out fuses, one by one, until the current goes away. This is a way to isolate the circuit with the issue.

Believe it or not, dirty battery terminals can also drain a battery; yours doesn't look bad, but just make sure the terminals are nice and clean so they make good contact. Good luck!

I like the black better myself, looks cool but like you I really like the black steelies.

Been 18 mths since I did any major update to my car, did put some new tires on 6 mths ago but that is just wear & tear.
So it was about time I splashed some cash, a mate was bring in some car parts so I decided to share some container space . Summit Racing here I come.
Rims, always wanted steelies so got 15x8 's. My Cooper Cobra 275 and 235's wrap them nicely.
New mopar orange leads, oil pressure sender which enables my original dash gauge to work, rocker cover breather cap , chrome wheel nuts.
Like a Tacho gauge and found one at Summit that meet the look I wanted. Easy to fit and works/looks great. My engine is an unknown as we just removed it , cleaned and painted and put it back. Runs smooth and quiet. Keen to get some more HP so got a Mopar Performance Cam. Plan to do some head work next year. My engine builder warned me that we won't know what we can do until the heads come off. If the bottom end is tired I may need to spend more.
Didn't like the alloy rad my car came with so when I saw that Summit had a Factory looking replacement ,( Spectra ), I brought one along with a shroud and new hoses. A week later a mate spotted a genuine 26" one on NZ's ebay equivilent for $150. I grabbed it. Bonus is that it came out of a 70 RR. Tanks in great condition and great flow when flushed. All fitted up perfectly and runs great. Got a new water temp sender so hopefully that will get the factory gauge going too. ]

Looking pretty muscular with the steelies on Tony. Very nice. Good score on the radiator too.

Looks great! I like the original radiator too.

My car is due for an engine soon too, but for it runs and drives good too. Like you, I just want a little more power. Glad you're enjoying the car!

Cheers From Pennsylvania!
