Nz 70 rr

Thanks Jase, Glenn and Hawk.
:upside down: Roadrunner is Legal, party at my place. Got there and first thing he said was "car is not ready" and I think **** still not up to standard. What he meant was the paper work was not finished, that was a relief. Get behind the wheel tomorrow lunch time, will do the insurance thing , then head to nearest Gas Station, then drive this Roadrunner as it was born to do.:eek:ld_school:
Support from forum members has definitely helped get me over the line with 1 week to spare, will get some road miles on her but all looks good for our trip to the Whangamata Beach Hop, a 5 day 50's,60's early 70's car party. Yeehaa.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

I know from past experience that getting a car done (OK, mostly done - are they ever fully done?) is a great feeling. Enjoy it and don't worry about the grin that you will be unable to wipe off your face! I am hoping to get mine moving in a 2-4 weeks (not done, but moving). We'll see how it goes - I am about 3 weeks behind schedule as it stands, so I would love to be in your position with the car done!

Enjoy the beach hop!

Hawk

Outstanding!! It's been a pleasure watching you put this car together over the past year and a half or so. Seeing you wrap it up and call it a done deal is just icing on the cake. Congrat's NZ, you did a great job man......and you have yourself a car that you should be very proud that you built. Have Fun!

Thanks Hyrdgoon and Propwash.

Had a hell of a day on wednesday when i went for first test drive. Whines, vibrations . Gearbox light on oil so topped up. Went to gas station and only got 4 gallons in before tank started leaking. Tightened the ring to fix this. Back on road and when we hit 45 mph there was real bad vibration and diff was whining. Smelt fuel so stopped and gas coming out of passg rail. Got to mopar guy and looked at his 70 RR on a hoist. Turns out I had breather line pluged into return line. Timed and checked engine , all good. Went to check diff and said **** the drive shaft is 1" 1/4 too short, also U joint 2mm of play. Got back home in one piece. Had to get new drive shaft made ( $400 US) . Fit this tomorrow and do a diff nugget swap, put in a 3.23. More problems as RR pinion yoke large and nugget going in has small one. Have to do a yoke swap also. 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

Had a big day today. Took 3.23 nugget out of challenger and replaced it with 2.76. Took 4.33 out of roadrunner and put 3.23 in it's place. Also swapped the pinion yokes between the 4.33 and 3.23. Luck both were a 10 spline. Fitted new driveshaft. Test ride went great, no whine from the diff, no vibration from the drive shaft.
Got a list of jobs for tomorrow, will include another test run.

I hear you with the one step forward two steps back... :angryfire:

...having said that, I don't know ANYONE who has ever done a full restoration on a car and not had a punch list of items to fix. LOL, I keep hoping my car will just be perfect, but I am sure I will have my share of issues as well. Hopefully the issues are pretty manageable, and looks like you are well on your way to solving yours. Congrats on getting the differential and drive shaft issues addressed! By the way, how is your drive shaft too short??? Is it not original to your car? Did you make major drivetrain changes? Just curious.

Either way, nice work. We'd love to see a video of it soon!!!

Hawk

Great to hear that you've got it on the road now Tony. I guess the mail in NZ will be super quick now. :3gears:

Thanks guys.
Would be great if I could use on the job Glenn, think they wouldn't like the fuel bill.

Was as I recieved it Hawk, bit of this and that car. Lucky money can solve most things, wish I had more of it.

Start our big car trip in a few hours, better get some sleep. Will take plenty of photos and next update will be next tuesday. Can't beat a road trip, yeehaa.

Car went fantastic, 800 miles and purred along, gearbox needs rebuild as 4th was the only gear you didn't need ear plugs for. Will post the photos now and add the comments tomorrow. Hope they are in order.

Looks like you had a great time! Car looks awesome and it looks like you got to see plenty of other awesome rides along the way! I have pics saved of that tubbed/procharged hemi - RR from another website... love that thing hahaa

Looks like a great trip, albeit with some rain - hope the wipers were trouble free! 800 miles without issue is great, and a testament to how well the car went together. I am worried about my tranny too after I dropped it, so we will see what kind of startup issues I have when eventually I get mine on the road.

Congrats on what looks like a momentous trip!

Great stuff Tony. Wish I was there. Stuck at work. Never mind, next year. Glad the runner went well. Must be a good feeling. Congrats.
