Son's 69 RR with a built 440 today out for a ride oil pressue went to zero,

he heard a sound like something loosing pressure like a air leak.

Engine has correct amount of oil, thought gauge might be bad, disc. the oil line and started the engine no oil from the engine to the gauge.

Engine made no strange sounds, had it rolledbacked home, any thoughts on this problem? Where do we start?

thanks,

Clogged line if your lucky.
Pull the valve covers and distributor and spin the oil pump with a drill to see if it failed.

Be sure to spin the pump with the drill in reverse for your big block 440. For small block engines, have the drill in the forward position.

Your oil pump is external so it's easy to change if needed. As stated, pull your distributor and intermediate (read oil pump drive) shaft and use the long hex made to spin the pump with a drill or socket and speed handle. You may find the intermediate shaft is bad when you pull it. On rare occasions the hex end can snap off
