Playing the b5 blues with a b5 blue beep beep!

It's no fun trying to redo somebody else's. You basically have to go backwards to see what they screwed up before you can go forward replacing with new. And if you're taking us on this journey, i'm going to be the obnoxious kid kicking the back of the seat saying "are we there yet?"

a few updates on my starting point with the trunk pan. IMG_1175.jpgIMG_1181.jpg i used a sawzall, hammer and chisel, and blair spot weld remover kit, this is the second time around for me on trunk pan removal and this time its a lot more easier to perform work, but it is still a job to remove a botched up trunk pan or any trunk pan, and you will notice the extra large spot welds that was left, without any grinding down at all.

Holy crap Johnny...the folks from that body shop should be drug out in the street and beatin! Wow! You go your hands full my friend. Hat's off to your "Think Positive-Move Forward" approach. Onward with your "butt-kicking" sir.

prop that is the first thing i said when i first seen it "holy crap",but i also looked beyond that and saw that this car could be made into a pretty decent car, with some work.the car has some good points as well,so i am feeding off of that and my little know how, with plenty of patience to march on to victory!

Being able to see through all the rot, rust, carnage and see what she can & will be someday is definitely the likes of a true car guy. Great to hear you have that vision Johnny. Having something like carries a guy through a project, right till the end.

It's easy to get overwhelmed, stay focused on one small area at a time.

JOHNNY! Roger has something coming out of his nose and he keeps trying to wipe it on me!!!!!!! Is the car done yet???? We need video! Where do babies come from? I'm bored and have nothing to do. I heard funny noises coming from yours and mommy's bedroom last night. :th_krazy::th_krazy::th_krazy::rolling:

john, that is pretty cool i like that and made me laugh, but you and roadrunner know this is a marathon not a sprint, i am doing the grunge work now a section at a time, trying to get where you are with your car. once i get there i will be proud and happy.

here are a few more updates on trunk pan removal for b5.IMG_1197.jpgIMG_1198.jpg

look to the left you can see one of those homemade trunk drop off that the body shop decided to weld on to the driver side quarter panel all the way down to the bottom of the quarter panel makes for a lot of work trying to detach it from panel some real caveman workmanship.IMG_1199.jpgIMG_1200.jpgIMG_1201.jpgIMG_1203.jpgIMG_1205.jpg

making progress finally got all of that botched up trunk pan out, next will be to grind down frame rails where all of those mountain size spot welds were and start to clean inside of frame rails out so i can start rust proofing with rust bullet or por 15.IMG_1242.jpg

Looks like you have a great start going on there. Keep up the good work.

Looks pretty solid from what I can see. Keep after it

yes the rails are in good shape, the insides are dirty, but i am cleaning and wire brushing the insides and out sides down so they can be coated with por 15 or rust bullet.

i have been using this wheel from harbor freightView attachment 220117 it is great for rust and paint removal cleans down to bare metal quickly and easily,be sure to use face mask and respirator because it kicks up rust and paint i use my box fan set on medium speed to blow the material away from face while using this disc.

that looks about as good as the ones on mine. whoever did the quarters was a pop rivet master. not one sign of weld anywhere.

a new update on progress of b5 trunk removal processIMG_1257.jpgIMG_1258.jpg cleaned all the junk out of rails and i grinded down spot welds from the top of rails and cleaned top of rails off with grinder as well and i taped off with blue tape to keep the top of rails clean from rust proof materials.that will be the next step. i still have some more triming to do for inner fenders some material still remains on the bottom i will trim all that down as well and i will use my grinding wheel on the rails to clean them up from the outside as well.

i see some b5 on your car 69 gtx you know i love that b5 and your gtx when completed in that beautiful blue, with stripes will be one bad mopar i can not wait to see it done!

Sounds and looks like you have everything under control good! I know it's a lot of time and work but like others i do think it's in the best interest of the cars and how we take care of them, later on its a good feeling knowing all the time and work the car is ready for another 40 years, only better with the rust converters we have to use on the cars now.. Looking great, Good luck!

Johnny's in the trenches, battling the ruthless onslaught of rust, previous cobble job's and rotten metal! Keep up the fight, looks like you're winning!
