been working on b5 i have done so much grinding work until my hands and arms feel like a strong candidate for for a ben gay commercial,i have made a lot of progress and i continue working on rear of car starting with a bad driver rear tail light housing and light bucket i saw some rust and rot on that one and decided to remove it and i will replace it with new metal. . i removed that entire light side.

from the tail light section i decided to clean up the underside of the package tray,kinda tuff working under there with limited space to move around,looked like a pretzel at times with all the bends and twist i made to get position to grind,but it turned out nicely proud of my work with it.

then i decided to go on top of rear package tray for some clean up as well,much easier working on the top,came out pretty nice.

i went back over it a second time to clean up the blue spots on all the metal,then i used a etch primer and then i used eastwoods rust encapsulator to top off and i will go back after that with a epoxy primer.and i will have to replace the top parts of both corners not to bad a job for that i have ordered both small corner pieces,i could cut some metal and fit in those little spots,but i decided to do it correctly and will repair with amd small corner patches.i just kept on going forward with grinding work with interior and roof work.

i am still working forward,i will remove dash and continue working on the cowl area for cleaning and under dash, the main floor has spot welds that needs grinding and i will clean all that up, and will go over all the seem areas with a good seam sealer before i shoot primer on main floor area,i know that passenger side outer rocker needs replacing because of shotty body repair,so i will be revisiting prop wash thread on that, to get some direction and insight,i started removing some spot welds from the top of rocker already,but that will be the last thing to do on floor area.thanks for dropping by.

Let me cry on your shoulder about my body shop experience. Bought a 69 GTX real cheap,but after I got it home, it sell wasn't worth what I paid for it.Took it ti AMD installation center for complete rebuild.Every body panel was replaced mostly with new AMD stuff. AMD said it would take 2mo. to complete, but took 2yrs. Brought the car home and took it to body shop near home that does really nice paint. He said $5000. for complete paint with out any rust to contend with, which I tought was reasonable especially if he did as good a job as he had on others. He said the car would out in 4mo. about 6 mo. later he said he needed $2000 more, and I paid him that. 2yrs and 8mo later car is still not painted. So I give up and go to pick it up anyway. He said I could not get the car unless I paid him $1500 more. $7500 for a car with no rust and no paint. He said he would finish the job for $8000 more. Yeah right.So I just brought the car home and started putting it together. after I get it running and know where everything is I will take it apart and send it another Paint shop.

inspector i feel for you,my story is a little different,previous owner before me had this car in a body shop and they replace quarter skins,trunk pan in which they screwed those up,main floor pan is ok that is one thing they did right,they screwed up driver outer rocker,fortunately for me i can fix all that my self and have started that,i will send car to shop for a paint job,but its going to have everything done before it gets there,and i will send motor out to be built, i have a family member who does auto upholstery and headliners so i will get a big cut in price there, so all that helps me greatly.

Wow, what a project. I had a similar experience with a shop and paint, its ridiculous what these independent guys get away with.

Anyway, I was curious, looking at your pictures and the rust removal, since its almost impossible to get into the areas like the sail panel/c-pillar areas what did you use as a rust inhibiting treatment for the areas before primer?

no problem, i new that was going to be a challenge so i used a long small steel brush to get the scale off,then i sprayed eastwoods rust converter on the areas in sail panels,this stuff turns the area a black color after 48 hours must wait 48 hours before you top it with something,so i waited and all areas was black,then i topped it with eastwoods gray rust incapsulator and it came out very nice, i also did the same thing to my underside of rear package tray,grinded, then rust converter,then gray rust encapsulator to top it off turn out great, very good coverage smooth looking.
