Mine was badly rotted where the jambs meet the tops of the rockers, around the base of the a-pillars and all around the vent openings. Mine would have been much more time consuming to repair than to replace.

ok,thanks. i think mine are ok.car has been in storage for a few yrs so i don't think mine got a whole lot of moisture, but i'll know more when i tear into it.

Just read this whole thread......Awesome work! Keep it up!!!

Jason

there's no paint inside there, water collects as do leaves, needles, and crap in those cowels. Plus, rodents like to live up in there too, it's safe, and secluded, so, if your car was outside for any length of time, yank that cowel off, I encourage my clients to remove this cowel before media blasting, or, they pay me to do it, it usually is a mess inside there.

I should be getting my pillar parts, thanks again General!, on Wednesday, so for now I got the doors I will be using out from my storage building and finished disassembling them and those will get blasted same time as the chassis. Also grabbed one of my fenders, which are going to need some work, both have some rot behind the wheel opening. Had already picked up the lower patch panels some time ago, so now it is time to fix them. Check out this old repair, it looks like they used part of an old metal sign for the patch and melted some braising rod over the top of the joint to adhere it:rolling:. Unfortunately the understructure has some thin spots and a big hole in it, thankfully, I have an extra, so that will get replaced too. Here's how it looked so far, still have to do some cabinet blasting, cleaning and por priming before I can put it back together and weld the patch in.

Hey, we really are on par with these projects, I see from your post, and pics of your fender repair efforts, haha, I did that last year; well documented on my GTX thread, man, we are neck and neck in this race aye? I better get my *** in gear and get going, or you're going to get ahead of me! :):)

How are you doing Donny?.
Are you a betting man?, I smell a wager, whoever finishes first gets???
If I finish first...a year supply of your best BBQ sauce!
If you finish first...a year supply of Better Made potatoe chips!, Made in Detroit!.
Got some more done on the one fender, sandblasted the surfaces that won't be exposed after they are assembled and por15nd them as well. Should have that one back together today. I also pulled out the other fender, which was primed and needed to be stripped so I can see what kind of shape it's in. Well, it's not great, in fact, the "DOGS" original fender just may be in better shape, so I pulled it out too, but I'll save that for another reply.
Also found some dents in the front around the headlight bezel that will need some work, I'll try to beat them out some so they won't need so much filler.

Ok, here are the pics of 2 driver side fenders I have to choose from. It is looking like the "DOGS" original might actually require less work than the one I picked up along the way. So I stripped the paint off both to make the final determination and in the process uncovered some more of the "DOGS" racing heritage. It seems the adhesives from the stickers leached through the paint and stained the metal. It may be hard to read in the pics, but I see one "Firestone" and one "Crane", kind of gohstly. The one that was in primer has small rust hole in the usual place and is just dented and dinged all to hell. Both are repairable and I will probably fix them both, use the original and sell the other ready to paint.
Should have my a-pillar bases today!!!!!.

Looking good as usual Matt..That has to be a refreshing feeling being able to move on to the fenders/front end segment of your project. Coming right along. There's light on the horizon buddy!

Yes I did get my a-pillar parts from Generaljmwlee, thank you very much, and here is what they look like. I have removed the stuff I don't need off of them so far, still need to blast & prime them before install, hopefully by the end of the weekend it will be ready to go.

Rats nest really make a mess of a car. I got mine stripped and while power washing the under side of the car getting all that lovely Oklahoma red dirt off, I had discovered that I had nests built in both rear frame rails.

how hard was it to remove the front cowl, and after you removed it, is it still reuseable?

I wished dodge have bolted them on like most other cars makers

Damn Matt! shes gonna be up and running in no time, cant wait to see it!! Think she will make it to the dreamcruise?

Hey Iraqivet01, the upper cowl is not the easiest part to remove, aside from all of the spot welds, and there are a lot, it is bead welded near each a-pillar. However, if you are doing a full resto on the car, I would definitely remove it, if for no other reason but to clean it out and protect it from future issues. If removed with care they can be reused, in fact I have an extra if you need one.
Good luck!

Dream Cruise 2011:rolling:. It's gonna take all summer to get it ready to paint and all winter to put the car back together after its painted. I still have an engine and trans to build, suspension to rebuild and install and the interior to restore and put together, fuel system, brakes, wiring, glass, trim. I have most of the parts, but it is still a ways off from being done, I'm hoping for spring 2011. There is a lot of work to do on this, not to mention work to PAY for it all.

can't wait to see more pics.

Your wish is my command!
I got the pillar parts welded to the cowl today and got a little further with the one fender. Next I will install the cowl. I probably won't be leaving for the Island for another 10 days or so, my materials and tools are on a container ship headed for Mustique and I don't want to leave until I have a confirmation date that they will arive. I will have plenty of time to get the "DOG" to my buddies collision shop for the start of the next major part of this resto.
