project R/T

I worked all day buffing out the car. I only did the top parts of the car, hood trunk and roof. Still need the sides so I can putthe emblems back on. I also worked on the plastic foot panels on the side under the dash, as well as the door jamb plates and door cards. I'm going to need to make a set of door panels or find a set I can afford to finish the interior. Man I'm sore all over but glad I'm almost finished. Here are a few pics.

Yesterday and today I worked on painting the rear interior panels. I haven't had a chance to put them back in as I've been working on a nissan pathfinder I bought for my daughter. I've been chasing down a short in the lighting system. Looks like someone spliced a ground into the light switch so I cut the 2 splices I found. Here are the pics of the panels I painted.

Great work! Coming along nicely....

Was that R6 Red on the front door/rear door panels?

It's inferno red, the color I was wanting to paint the car, only Kirkers inferno red is a bit different.

Today I moved the car outside to remove the rear seats and reinstall the rear panels I painted. I also took a few pictures of the car so far. I still need to put the front and rear letters back on and the interior door panels.

I was looking for some door panels but they are out of my price range so I decided to work with what I have. The lower section on both sides was pulled away from shrinkage so I took the wifes blow drier and heated up the vinyl and stetched it back as best I could. Still have a couple of wrinkles but way better now.

Glad you liked them! You are doing an awesome job, and I still can't get over the color, I have never liked maroonish type colors on cars but that looks incredible! The wheels look great also with that combo!
You've come a long way since you started...I wish I could make that kind of progress with mine!

My panels are aluminum and I've been contemplating ( when I get to that point) of trying to make my own repop panels that would be as close to factory as possible....I don't think it would be that hard...???....

That's right Mike, My front panels were done by someone. But there was no plastic water barrier so they warped at the bottom and I had to reglue the carpet pieces. I don't know how close to original the pattern is though but they looked good at one time.
The paint should have been closer to the inside panel color, a little lighter red but I can live with the difference between brands.
Just keep plugging at yours, some days go smoothly and you get a lot done and some days you get stuck on one project. Knock out one piece at a time till you get to where you are comfortable with what you have. Then enjoy it. Good luck my friend.

Today I worked on the front door panels and arm rests. I couldn't find the front arm rests and one front base or the rear bases. So I took some rear bases from a four door and put them in the front with the rear arm rests. Sometimes you have to make due with what you have.

Today I received some front window sweepers I found for sale. So I decided to replace the wing window on the pass side as the locking arm was broken. I know that once the sweepers are installed it's a pain to work on the windows.

Today when I got home my M/T ET street drag radials were sitting on the porch. I went with 275 60 15s this time instead of 275 50s. It doesn't look like I'm loosing more than 3/4 of an inch in contact patch. I'm not sure if I will switch them out right away though, there is no test and tune for the next few weeks so it depends on what is going on at the track this month that I can enter.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!!!

Today I received the seal kit from Just Mopar. I will post pics of them installed in the next few days. As it turns out, the toy drive/car show I was getting ready for tomorrow has been postponed because of all the rain here in Texas. But that gives me more time to get the seals installed.

I got the trunk seal done as well as the roof rail seal but I still need to splice the window seal to the door seal. I also need to stretch and glue the front section of the door seal because it didn't line up well with the holes for the pins. Hopefully tomorrow I can turn the car around to work on the driver side.

Finished the driver side door and roof rail seals today the door seal fit better than the passenger side too.
