The Road Runner convertible tapped out my budget for a while!
I looked over the aluminum bellhousing,and it appears to be in good shape. I'm not seeing any cracks,or stripped out bolt holes. I am going to throw it in the glass bead cabinet,and run some taps through all the bolt holes to clean up the threads before I paint it.

Those details might save the next guy doing that swap a lot of grief!
It was warm enough to work in the garage today, so I got the bell housing, torque arm,and clutch rod blasted in the glass bead cabinet. Then I ran taps through the bolt holes in the bell housing. There were two broken bolts in the bell housing where the starter bolts in. One I was able to extract with a small pipe wrench, the other one I soaked with penetrating oil and tried to extract it with a pointed punch and a hammer. That didn't work, so I used a center punch to point it so I could drill the broken bolt out. I tried to drill it as straight as possible, but it still went a bit off center. I was able to run the tap through it,but I am not sure a bolt will stay tight in the hole under the stress of the starter cranking. So where the bolt goes through the back of the bell housing there was a machined area for the ball stud and shift lock bracket. So I used my disc grinder to extend the machined area another 1/8 of an inch,so I can run a longer top starter bolt, and get a nut on the back of the bolt to prevent it from loosening up when the starter cranking happens.. The torque arm cleaned up nicely and I blasted two clutch pedal rods. One is nearly perfectly straight and one has a pronounced bend to it. Both came from B body pedal sets,so I guess I will use which ever one fits the car the best. I hope to get the parts all painted up next week.

Before I get into the project progress, I want to give a good guy shout out to Jim,aka Moparwacko for his help and generosity to me. I posted a thread in the transmission section seeking the part number for a pilot shaft bushing that NAPA used to sell to put a manual transmission on an engine that originally came from the factory with an automatic transmission. He not only gave me the information, but told me he had the now discontinued bushing, and mailed it out to me free of charge. The generosity and helpfulness of this site continues to amaze me,and I can't thank Jim enough for helping me get the car together, to hopefully make it to Carlisle this year. So today I cleaned and painted the bell housing and dust cover, the torque arm, clutch rod and assorted hardware

Since I had to remove the steering column to put the clutch and brake pedal assembly in, I figured it would be a good time to prepare and paint the crappy green column burnt orange to match the rest of the interior of the car.
I gave the column a coat of clear,and painted the mounting bracket and hardware.
The steering column is ready to go back in the car.

What temperature do you have in the shop when you paint? Out here in CA, I have to wait for it to get over 60 or heat the garage. Painting below that temperature results in a poor finish.
It's 20 degrees in the garage right now. I paint parts in the basement this time of year.. it's 70 degrees in there,but I can't bring the whole car in there,just parts.
Ventilation??
