I have the radiator out of my 66 Satty and it measures 26" inside from tank to tank, everywhere I read says it should be an OEM 22" radiator. Does the 22" radiator have wider attachments points to attach on the radiator support in the car and they possibly went with a larger radiator at some time in it's life? I want to go to a 3 row radiator but unsure what size to go for.

Thanks

Bill

I received a PM from another member and he said that the 26" radiator was used for a 426 motor, and it seems to stand true since the 426 motor would have needed the 26" radiator while the other engines used the 22" radiator. I will more than likely go for an aftermarket 26" radiator and new shroud (mine is broke and fixed poorly).

When I was young if I'd called one of these a "Satty" I would have fully expected....and deserved...to have been punched in the balls

I assume you have a 26" opening, as the 26" Radiator with heavy duty cooling was an option. You are lucky, not very many were made.
#2582944 is the 26" Radiator for the 318 with A/C. Part# 2548948 is the 26" Radiator for the 361-383-426.

Glad I didn't grow up where you lived. Thanks for the informative reply!

If you have a 26 inch already, just recore it to a three row as mentioned above.

My 2-cents.... These guys all sound like they know what they're talking about, but I will add one little detail that "might" apply to your car. On '70 Road Runners, the 22" radiator came with 383's and the 26" radiator came with 426/440's I believe (or course there were options, etc.) Anyway, I found out that the radiator core supports are different too.... small hole for 22" & larger hole for 26", but the radiator mounting locations are the same (22" has a wider bracket). Also, I have seen 26" radiators on 22" core supports, but I'm not sure if they were stock that way or somebody added a wider radiator somewhere along the line. If you do that, you block direct air flow into a little bit of the 26" radiator.

I never owned a 70', so there could be just one width there. in 66-67 The 22 had a small opening, and the larger radiator had the wide Factory A/C type. I scraped a 67' Satellite with the 383, and it had the small opening, no A/C. To deviate somewhat, all 67' GTX's had the 26 Inch radiator, regardless.

I just measured the radiator support opening and it is 26" across. I'll look into having a radiator shop re-core my current radiator to a 3 row. Thanks for that tip!

Use a factory shroud & clutch fan on that re-core .

Clutch fan is good, use a Mopar one. A guy here a few years ago was working on his car revving the engine and adjusting the carb with one of those aftermarket fans that had riveted blades. One blade came off and hit him in the throat, killing him Instantly, in front of his wife. Very bad.
