Roadbird's 1970 Roadrunner restoration.

I'm not saying a 140 won't do 1/4 but it's certainly not the appropriate machine for it.

+1. That 140 might work fine, or you might end up with a rotisserie that drops your car some day.

Use the 140 to tack it up, then hire out the final welding or find a stick welder to use.

Your 140 will work fine on any sheetmetal welding you have to do.

I think that would work too. Tack weld it with my 135 and then rent the big one to finish off all the heavy welding. But you know what I think I'll just buy one already made for around $1,300. I think that would be alot easier and the most likely route I'm going to take.

Thanks everybody.

Just want to say thank you to everybody who posted a reply and suggestions. I really appreciate the knowledge and help so far. I used my iphone to take some pics of roxanne now and she is just about striped. I posted those photos to my facebook and my yahoo mail and I'm still trying to figure out how to post those pics here on this thread. Any suggestions anybody? Thanks in advance.

Roadbird, as one soldier to another soldier, I see some big problem areas that might mess your plans up. You took welding classes in 1983, and did some welding in 84 or 85? Dude, that's not the strongest resume for what you're fixxin' to do! Arc (stick) welding is ok for the rotisserie, but, for the car body and any car parts; no way, forget it! Get a 200 amp machine, but a MIG welder. I don't really want to see you jump into the water filled with sharks man, but, you're not setting yourself up to really achieve results you wish to see. I know, I've been there, and done (doing) that! And anything I say will be to help you navigate the terrain.

Do you have a shop? Are you in the Army still, and, when's your next deployment? Does the shop have 240v? Do you have a lift? Do you have the tools, engine stand, etc? Are you rebuilding the motor? Do you have like 30K saved up to dump into your car? (but first dump it into tools). Are you going to start a business to justify the cost of your new-found-acquired tools after you use them one time for your car?

And, the bread and butter angle; media blast. I know you bought a pot and compressor, so, as soon as you get it hooked up, tell me how its going, and what issues you'll run into. Right now I can tell you that you'll most likely have moisture issues and clogging with your pot. This will ruin your Saturday plans to blast a fender or door. But...the main thing is that you'll have fun messing with this car! I just hope it's fruitful and productive! Cheers!

I'm doing it at home and have an enclose type carport system about to be delivered to my home and I'm setting up next to my garage. This will be the place my Roadrunner will be worked on. I still have the Dual Blaster back in it's original packaging and I'm not going to use it until I return from my trip home in Guam. I would like for the carport to arrive before I leave so I can set it up and push my RR under it and put the rest of the new equipment in it before I go. Most of the car is stripped the engine and trans and rear axle is all that remains and the trunk lid. I'll try again to post some pics tomorrow.

...deployments end up messing up your plans!
I know what you mean. But I figure since I just returned from a deployment and have an ETS on Oct. of next year I doubt I 'll deploy again being I would be very short. And if that happens oh well I guess it'll be a chance to save alot of money again and complete all my planned restoration projects. I also have a 68 440 Magnum 4 barrel and a 69 Roadrunner parts car that I might throw that 440 into after I rebuild it, it's going to be a surprise street sleeper.

Latest pics of Roxanne.

Hope it goes?

More Pics.

Sorry folks but these are the older pics that I took when the Roadrunner first arrived. I have been trying to post these pics since I first took these on June 25th, 2012. Hope you enjoy these. The first pic is a pic of my 69 RR parts car that the owner sent me after it was picked up by a friend to store for me until I can accumulate more funds for it's transport from Michigan to my place here in Washington. The guy that picked up the car for me is Dave and I paid him $250 to do this for me. He is a really great friend to me and hope to meet him one day.
