For everyone who is wondering if a rpm performer will fit under a 70 charger's hood with the stock air cleaner the answer is yes it does, with about an inch of clearance (with out the insulation matt). For those that are wondering about any performance gains the answer is holy crap YES, I have a pretty much stock engine except for 10:5:1 cr and a 484 lift cam 292 adv duration crane cam, you wont be disapointed at all it does everything uncle eddy said it does... off idle/low end torque and it pulls super hard up top

I would be interested in hearing what you used, because I just went through this on my 69 Charger with a 440. No way a stock unit would fit on my car.

Don't know if we have the same issue but I'm going through right now on 69 charger 383. Unfortunately, one of the p.o.'s had the heads cut down a bit so the intake doesn't fit right unless you have the intake shaved too. Except I'm throwing and old tm6 on. If that doesn't do much, the performer rpm will be next.

Good information thanks!

RPM Performer works good for me too. With an 850 Mighty Demon on top, the hood JUST closes with the power-bulge hood. Drop base air cleaner. Indentation on insulation pad. 69 Coronet R/T.

I dont have a drop air cleaner base, i have a 950hp carb.for some reason theres clearance issues with 69 chargers and you have to use a drop base. that tm6 will pull pretty good if you have the r's to hit the sweet spot

Hey guys I am looking at the same thing, finishing up putting the 2087 top end kit on and I don't think I will be able to use the mopar performance air cleaner I bought to sit on top of the 750 holley. I was looking at fiiberglass hoods but not sure I want to do that. Where does one find the low drop bases? my hood offers a maybe a little room on the 68 GTX but not much

Wasn't even close to clearing my 69' Charger R/T. Had to go with a stock height intake manifold so I could use the stock air cleaner.

I just ordered a drop base air cleaner from Summit in hopes of making it work out.

I used the RPM intake on the 440 in my 66 belvedere with a factory un-silenced breather under the stock hood without using a drop-plate. Although I could not install hood insulation it fit barely. I don't think I could ran a drop plate because of my trans linkage and I have the coil installed in the factory location. I just used a shorter air filter. The RPM intake pulls hard thru the RPM's.

Keep in mind,,, a 440 is a Raised Deck "TALLER" than a 383 or 400 "B" engine......

I found the best hood clearance and air flow by using 1 1/4" drop base (I used a Holley because I had it in the shop), a 2 5/16" K&N Extreme element, and a K&N Extreme filtered top. I also had the entire choke milled off the top of my Holley 770 Street Avenger. This gave me about 1 1/8" hood clearance.
The next closest setup up but with less air flow was by using a 1 5/8 drop older style Proform base, a 3" K&N element, and a K&N filtered top. This gave me about 3/4" hood clearance. This is on a 69 Charger with a 440 using an RPM intake which seems to be the model with the least clearance to start with. Pictures are in my Charger resurrection thread near the end.

I had Cuda Chick powder coat my Mopar Performance valve covers and breather and she did a wonderful job so I am trying to figure a way to make it work it out. I ordered one of the Ford Motorsports air breathers yesterday and that is already in wrinkle black. It should give me a 1.5" drop and comes with a 1" shorter filter than the Mopar Performance. If that does not work I guess the breather top goes on the wall in the man cave and a K/N filter all filter goes on probably in a 14".

I have learned from this project that budgets are ridiculous to set.

I'm glad you're happy with the work Rocketman! :D But now you're figuring out why I asked which intake you were going to run when we first started talking ... please let me know if there's anything I can do after the sale to help you get it going. I want you driving that thing!!!!

It is an RPM Edelbrock, I am hoping the Ford drop base will help me reach the goal. BTW, if you run into grommet issues ever again, I found a multipack at O'Reillys that fixed my grommet needs!

Glad to hear it!! You should have quite a collection of those by now LOL ... I forgot to charge you for the Jeg's stuff so if you don't want them let me know -- somebody will need 'em eventually. :D Thanks again for everything! I hope you get many years of enjoyment from the work.

I will try to collect all of them and send them in a big envelope. thanks

Just a question on gaskets since I am getting different answers...did you use 2 sets of intake gaskets and the valley pan sandwiched in the middle??

No just the one with silicone for the seal, enough that is sqeezed out, let it dry and then cut with a razor blade

Was that a std Charger with a 383ci B-Low Deck or a Charger R/T with a 440ci R/B ??, big differences... But yes it's a great all around street/strip manifold too, especially accompanied by a properly sized & tuned Holley/QuickFuel between 680-850cfm carb, depending on your actual needs & a good ignition, & Gauze type air-filter {like a K&N or AEM etc.}... most will find a 1"-2" drop-base for the air-cleaner will be needed for "everything" to clear, many different cars will have different clearance issues thou... I ran a Eddy RPM on my modified 68 383ci RR, with a 1-1/2 drop-base 14" Moroso Air-cleaner & a 4" K&N filter, Quickfuel 780cfm it barely cleared under the stock steel hood... I have a different combo, 6bbl & A12 hood now...
