Rust revival

So that is what 2 hours of sun a day does to you. Damn snow makes you a metal craftsman. Amazing
 
the work you are doing on it just blows my mind.I don't think i could even attempt to do what you are doing.
 
Update time!

The pass floor area was basicly a repeat of the drivers side, with the donor floor section needing repairs before being installed.
Sure is nice to look in a window and NOT see concrete below!!! :)

Also finalized the locations for rear seat belts and got ready to add the plates under the floor.

Joe, I just looked at some pictures of later B bodies to get a general idea on where they went and then I put the lower rear seat in place to get a guide on the height.
I THINK my locations will work fine but I can't make a recommendation on the exact location to put them.

I will say that you should use large plates under the floor and if possible weld them into place...although your car may be finished and welding not an easy option.
Whatever you chose to do, make sure to have it strong as the people those belts are holding are not replaceable!!! ;) :D

Yes ok. I will install some extra plates but will probably bolt them through floor cause at this point like you point out I really don't want to weld.

Alright....lets see if we can close up that gaping hole on the pass side cowl area.
The hole is big and gets a bit bigger as the bad is cut away!

The inner trough has to be remade but the upper inner sections seem to be good.
I'll be removing the cowl top later to make sure.

What percentage of the sheet metal do you figure you will replace on this unibody? About how many hours you got into this? I'm sure by now you donated some blood and skin to it right?
 
Made up a front section to look like what should be there and pieced together the lower/outer with a drain hole.

Decided to change the shape a bit to allow for an access hole for cleanouts and repaints. It will get a cover before the fender goes on.
Don't want to ever cut this apart again!
Not quite finished but I shot some primer on it anyway just because I needed to see it cleaned up!

I'm leaving the top off to allow for sealing and painting of the important lower sections. Once the top of the cowl is off and the inner cowl inspected and repaired as needed it will all go together for a final time.

The war is being won, one battle at a time...:)

I will guarantee its too many though!
This is "fun" to me. Some people have a hard time justifying hours vs bodyshop labour rates...material costs.
I really don't care.
If I wasn't doing THIS car I'd be doing a different one.

Besides...I make everything myself so material costs are low other than the normal consumables!

NO aftermarket patch panels were harmed in the building of this car! Hahahaha
 
You have some very nice skills. That is exceptional work you are doing saving that car.

If you want to learn some tips that will help take your sheet metal work to the next level there is a video out there by David Gardiner from England. Its the best video I have ever seen on the subject. I don't know if rules of this site allow a link so google David Gardiner metal shaper. If you still can't find it PM me I will send you a link.

Man it is obvious you must enjoy this challenge. If it wasn't fun for you,you wouldn't have gotten this far this fast. The skills required to do this level of fab work are WAY beyond my capabilities. I do enjoy watching your progress and know the amount of time spent on just the planning and template making would scare off the average bear. If you don't mind my asking, what do you do for a living? I know as an electrician the last thing I wanted to do for fun was electrical chores around the house, just ask my wife,LOL. Keep up the good work and thanks for all the pics and commentary!
