My parents couldn't afford a Krate bike.

Me too. When the neighborhood kids had the Schwinn Krate bikes I had a old hand me down tank for a bike.I had a fake Mattel VAROOM engine on mine.
As we got older it was minibike time.All the kids were riding Fox Campus bikes..By the time I saved for a Fox (Used $30) they all moved on to Honda Mini Trails
As they say "A day late and a dollar short".Oh well I still had fun.
Lots of the photos of the toys above I had. The COX Dune Buggy was one of them. I remember if you had too much of a hill climb the engine would stall then start to run backwards.

I have one of those that was handed down to me from my older cousin. It's probably from the late 1950's. It is still hanging on the wall in my Mom's barn.

One toy I always had as a child was Hotwheels.
I collected them and had several cases of them.
I would dig tunnels and racetracks in the backyard. At one time I had probably 50 redline Hotwheels.
Who remembers the Hotwheels Crash Cars that had the part that would flip to a crashed part if it was bumped. I had a bunch of those too.

A buddy and I converted a huffy that was a wanna be stingray into a low-rider with a 10 speed front wheel, 2 sets of forks were bolted together, chain handlebars. So sketchy, but we had gold paint so it was cool lol.
Our half pipe into the lake with 2liter bottles duct taped to the bike was the best, Steve almost got killed when a Firebird with stoned Highschool kids wouldn't stop when we blocked traffic for runs lol

I remember going to grandmas house where she kept Sears catalogs from years past, I would spend hours looking at the different race tracks & bicycles, circling everything I wanted.
