The "current" Hemming's Muscle Machines magazine has a feature "Buyers Guide" story on the "70 Roadrunner"
The article states: 3 engine options available
1. 383
2. 440-6 BBL
3. 426 Hemi

My question is: "Was not the standard 4-BBL 440 available in a 1970 Roadrunner?

It is my belief that the 440 with 4BBL was not available...but as said above....Never say Never.

it was in a Super Bird, but not a "regular" Road Runner.

The magazine is correct.... BUT, didn't you get the "hi-po" 335 hp 383 cid in a Road Runner, but only the 330hp "low-po" 383 if you ordered air conditioning?

I think the difference was the 330 was for the AC cars which wouldn't clear the air grabber base. I "think" they are the same engine just the 335 gained 5hp from fresh air. Please correct me if I'm all wet on this.

That sound reasonable. I also think the A/C cars' engines were painted blue instead of orange.

Sounds correct, but in '68 a 335/383 got the slightly bigger 440 cam& higher flow exh.manifolds. I think 440-6 was same lift/duration but was a 3-bolt cam sprocket& different angle on lobes&lifters.

Well,
So the 1970 Superbee came with:
A) 383 HP (Mine is AC but it still had the "Good 383 Magnum"
B) 440 "4-BBL"
C) 440 "Six Pack"
D) 426 Hemi 8V

The Charger came with the same engine options in 1970
The GTX?

I can NOT figure out why Plymouth did NOT "STUFF" the 440 4BBL into a Roadrunner in 1970!
Was it available in 1968 OR 1969?

PS: You guys could have "bet me" and I would have lost!
Crazy huh?
As Budnicks says: "Fill your Library before you fill your garage"

And only R/T Coronets? For Dodge correct? 440 4 barrels never came in Super Bees?

Yeah, I thought the 440 4BBL WAS available in the Superbee in 1970
COULD I have been ub=nder a False assumption ALL these years?

Correct BeKool, I have seen a couple of 1970 Coronet R/Ts and 440 Six Pack Coronet R/Ts
(Even saw a REAL 1970 "Red" convertible Coronet R/T 440 Six Pack Pistol Grip Dana car (My neighbor in Dayton OH 1983, I had the 70 Go Mango Challenger 440 SE/RT). {Somebody please shoot me}

So, my world has just been shaken Fellow Forum members!
What I had believed all these years was incorrect!
I was wrong again!

NO 1970 440 4BBLs in the Superbee AND the Roadrunner...
Oh my....

I was always under the assumption that Bee and Runners only had 6 packs with the 440 power plant. 68-70
And that GTX and Coronet R/Ts had the same 440 4 barrels option as the entry level.

All that about the 5 HP for the air grabber is not correct.

The 440 crank info is not correct either.

Factory literature claims the 383 HP got "the 440 heads", but we all know the 906 are the same across the board.

335 factory rated with or without AG (although I'm sure it added some IRL).

There's some debate on the 5 HP for A/C cars as well, and the truth is pretty complex and year specific.
