so, was the "Mopar Inheritance" a scam?

Sounds like the potential for this to turn into a monster problem is a real stretch of "what if's".

For Sale Section Rules

Not really a stretch. Let's take for sale ads as an example. The rules are prominently posted for everyone to see, but the following occur on a regular basis and almost chronically ignored at times:
1) asking price not identified
2) pictures not posted
3) location not identified in the ad or the seller's profile
4) regular member (not Gold) has email and/or telephone in the ad.
5) regular member (not Gold) bumping their ad. Note: Only Gold Members are permitted to bump. See rules for further detail.
6) posting multiple, unrelated parts in one for sale ad.
7) respondents posting unnecessary commentary.
_______________
Sidebar:
Also, about posting the price. The price shouldn't be buried in a wall of text. Post the price at the beginning or end of the ad; use a dollar sign for Pete's sake. A few times I have seen a "number" like "52k" (for example) buried in a long ad. It wasn't obvious if the item was $52k (i.e. dollars) or the odometer mileage reading.
_______________
There's even a suggested format in the for sale forum rules...when was the last time we've seen the "Payment Methods Accepted"' posted in an ad.

Suggested Ad Format:

[Part Name] For Sale
Shipping from [City, State]
Price: [$$$$$] OR [eBay Link]
Payment Methods Accepted:
[Item Description]
[Item Photos]

I see these forums as a Swiss Army Knife of things...
The one thing that the Swiss invented that does more harm than a 'Swiss Army knife' is the chocolate Toblerone.

Only a peace-loving nation could design a chocolate treat that smashes your top palate if bitten on too hard.

Sounds like the potential for this to turn into a monster problem is a real stretch of "what if's". If it really might be a problem (I admit I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes) I propose three simple rules for a WIW section:

1. Make the WIW section available to Gold Members only. That should eliminate scammers and people joining FBBO just to clutter up the site getting free appraisals so that they can then run off to ebay with their stuff.
2. Comments should be allowed. The "no comments" in the for-sale section really cuts back on the opportunity for sellers to learn when they are overpriced or mislabeling something.
3. Offers to buy should be done by PM to limit the clutter on the post. The idea being that the discussion actually stays on the topic of WIW.

All good suggestions.

We have to hold back sometimes when we see things for sale, but it probably is for the best. For me, there is a pornographic pair of early race Hemi exhaust manifolds that appear once in a while. I want to comment because they remind me of a time when the models I built had those parts, and it was magic to dream of the real thing.

Did not read the entire thread. Most times an innocent person looking for help gets screwed by some who know better.

Those who start trying to buy can easily be banned from replying to a thread. They are the ones at fault. Not the person asking for a value.

At least we haven't had a-

"You are censoring me and I demand you acknowledge my first amendment right to free speech"

post in a while.

This person was one of many who join because something like this fell in their lap. Before the posting ended, I was advising them that engines and transmissions have numbers that can be used to identify them. They would want to put the Road Runner drivetrain with the chassis if they could and all of its small parts were in boxes.

Maybe something for new members.

Welcome, thank you for joining us! Did you join to sell or buy Mopar parts? Parts find good homes here and we can give you pointers on how to identify them, how to find similar items for sale, and how to judge condition to get an idea for a price whether you buy or sell.

To sell, an ad must have at least one photo and an asking price.*. If you are having no luck identifying a part, there are Forums with a knowledge base that will get you back on track determining a fair price.

If you only knew the half of it.....

Did you see the FABO post-

Post?

Where do these people come from?

First time on the internet?

Sounds like the potential for this to turn into a monster problem is a real stretch of "what if's". If it really might be a problem (I admit I have no idea what goes on behind the scenes) I propose three simple rules for a WIW section:

Here is the thing.

Rules are nice to have, important even, but they also create problems. We see that with some members when they post commentary in the FS forums and get their posts deleted. Some of them throw real hissy fits. Sometimes it's just easier to not have the thing rules would be needed for -- if that makes any sense.

I also see WIW threads potentially turning into an auction or for sale thread, adding more problems.

The other thing is - I think WIW is really useless in many cases. It's worth whatever someone will pay for it. Many of these things can just go to ebay and see what others are trying to get for it in order to get a ballpark price.

What you guys have to understand is that I try to keep things as organized as I can and this kind of thing can be inherently disorganized.

Thanks for chiming in.
As a mere "member", I don't see the inner workings and the nuts and bolts of this stuff. We members are sort of like customers at a restaurant or night club where we interact with each other along with the staff but we don't see the problems that come up behind the scenes.
I was hoping that Joey would consider this as I stand by my opinion that with the right attention and oversight, a WIW forum would help people.
I don't agree that ebay or Bring A Trailer are a reasonable barometer of value. I don't think that any free auction or site is perfect. I do have a feeling that a WIW forum may harbor some scammers and cheapskates that might intentionally low-ball a value to make the "seller" list it for a cheaper price.
Hey, I know that statement doesn't make the prospect of a WIW forum more appealing but I am trying to be honest and express my opinions even if some don't help my cause.
I enjoyed the commentary that was a part of the WIW forum on the other site. This forum doesn't allow chatter on sales ads and I don't necessarily disagree with that rule. In part, I agree with it. Sometimes it is all I can do to just grit my teeth and scroll on by when I see something that is misrepresented or priced way too high.
Comments about an anonymous sales listing is helpful, in my opinion. What some people might miss in the listing, a sharp observer might see.

  ...yup....some folks are from a different planet or time zone.

I'm not a gold member, not by choice. I don't believe in credit cards and they won't accept a money order or check to renew the gold membership.
Some generous soul gifted me a gold membership, and I thank you very much. Please send me a PM and I will mail a money order out to you! Thanks!

I hear you, and I believe it is your site, so it is what you want it to be. Even without a WIW section, it is the best Mopar site I have been able to find. That said, I agree with what Kern said just below your post.

I am looking at it from a somewhat selfish point of view. I have parts, and acquire parts from time to time that I really don't know the value of. It would be helpful to have a way to know what the ballpark price is. And for those who would suggest that I do my research, I try, but it isn't really that simple to gain any source of accuracy. Ebay completed auctions are pretty accurate, if they just happen to have a completed auction of the same thing you want to sell (the original post to this thread for example would find no help there). You can look at prices here and elsewhere, but the ads you find are not sold items which would indicate that the price is too high (usually). And, items that are sold are often done with PM'd offers so just looking at the ad doesn't speak to the actual sold price.

For a relative newbie, I have probably said more than my fair share on this topic. Bottom line, it is JoeyChgo's site, and he has the absolute right to have it contain whatever he wants it to contain.
