so, was the "Mopar Inheritance" a scam?

Unfortunately I completely disagree with the "whatever someone is willing to pay" argument (sorry, Joey).

Of course, it's true, it's just not helpful.

Could you imagine a store where every item was priced at 5x the value and "OBO"?

“Whatever the market will bear” is not specific enough.
When I sell stuff, I’m not looking to fund a heart transplant, I want fair market value.
We all could price our stuff at rich and impatient idiot numbers and end up sitting on the stuff for decades.
Tell me, who hasn’t seen an item priced at three times the value and felt like telling the seller that he is crazy? Once a WIW thread gets some time to it, cars and parts that are discussed will establish a database of sorts. The seat from the 71 Charger will have a published history of a value. The hubcaps/wheel covers for a 69 Satellite will too.

I tend to price my stuff slightly less than what I find is the going rate...in order to move it.

...but still may take slightly less in order for it to go...NOW.

Unless it's something I know is a high dollar item that will eventually sell for market value.

That's another good point.

WIW is a moving target.

God forbid a high dollar used part gets repro'd.

Watch those B and C grade used ones fall fast and hard.

I would rather have a WIW section than a political section.

It's a CAR forum.
Rest assured, sooner or later, a WIW thread will be turned into a political one!

***Possible examples:
Q: What's this thing worth?
A: That's an EGR valve and not worth squat because they were a conspiracy by California and the U.S. government to improve emissions.

Q: What's this '72 roadrunner GTX worth?
A: Those are undesirable because government imposed emissions standards strangled the life out of the 440-4V. The horsepower dropped from...
(ignoring the gross and net hP differences).

Permit the red X for replies to WIW threads!

Emphasis mine.

A big IF and that's the problem.
Rules!! We have some that are on vacation from here more often than I go on vacation traveling this country.

You guys can use more work for free, you know, pro bono. It sounds great, on paper, bring it on.

Put your yourself in the shoes of the guy who posted the ad. His Dad has died, leaving a horde of stuff that he is not interested in, not does he know the value of it. He would like to see the stuff go to those that could use it. For him, it would be easiest to see it go as a package deal, rather than parcel it out a few pieces at a time. He could be the estate executor, trying to clear things up for eventual sale of the property, to divide among siblings. I have been put in this position myself, so can sympathize with the guy.

I agree and sympathise with the guy. He's in a tough spot. I wonder if he chose us as one of the first places to get answers. Like I said earlier, first he was asking for direct answers. Actual numbers. THen after a little discussion, having someone with some knowledge, and geographically close, could come to the cars and parts and give an estimate. Selling it all as a package is a tall order but possible for the right buyer.

What got the thread in trouble was a tiff between 2 members and a few words that sounded like an offer to buy behind the scenes. Shame on you guys. If my crystal ball wasn't broken from all the use on these forums, I would have just banned the troublemakers for a few weeks each and let the thread run until the next issue. There lies the problem. I can almost guarantee there will be more issues, probably on the same page. Boy do we (the staff) get tired of those kinds of threads and that's why they got taken down (and why we are having this big discussion about WIW threads or not.)

I've always had people hitting me up for legal advice, the number actually willing to pay for it, extremely small. When I retired my license, the bar association buried me with opportunities to work for free. No thank you. When I was in school, I was expected to pay my tuition with actual money.

I've been the last man standing many times, I get it. I've held auctions several times and had to bid on my own house to get the price up. Instinctively, greed is a person's fair price. I hired a reputable auction house once and was told that there would be people he knew there to bid on my house, not a problem I was told. They didn't come and the look on his face when I bid on it myself was priceless. He thought is was going to go for next to free. Can you imagine the conversation we had after it sold......... Fair price, my a**.

My wife shilled for me when I sold GTX number 3 at auction. This was after getting low balled for six months on the open market. Sold for nearly twice the amount at which the action stalled prior to her first bid. Purchased by a dealer, who then sold the car for a third more than his purchase price. Pricing is a tricky business.

@ech0es I hope you can find someone to view the cars and parts and give you an impartial estimate. I am sorry things took a turn here for you here. You did nothing wrong and you were just asking for some help. A word of caution though, often times the people that are knowledgeable that will give you an estimate, may be in the business to buy and resell cars and parts. They may want to "buy low-sell high" and as long as you are ok with that then all is good. We (the people here that care) don't want to see you taken advantage of because of your lack of car knowledge or your situation.

This is what happens when you try to kill the goose that laid the golden egg and then say your sorry. Grown men throwing a grenade in a fox hole and then end up jumping in. Clean up in aisle 7.
