I need to have the crown dipped in 24k Gold!
Unfortunately I completely disagree with the "whatever someone is willing to pay" argument
...or at least an annual cut-n-polish.I need to have the crown dipped in 24k Gold!
“Whatever the market will bear” is not specific enough.
When I sell stuff, I’m not looking to fund a heart transplant, I want fair market value.
We all could price our stuff at rich and impatient idiot numbers and end up sitting on the stuff for decades.
Tell me, who hasn’t seen an item priced at three times the value and felt like telling the seller that he is crazy? Once a WIW thread gets some time to it, cars and parts that are discussed will establish a database of sorts. The seat from the 71 Charger will have a published history of a value. The hubcaps/wheel covers for a 69 Satellite will too.
Rest assured, sooner or later, a WIW thread will be turned into a political one!I would rather have a WIW section than a political section.
It's a CAR forum.
Permit the red X for replies to WIW threads!
Rules!! We have some that are on vacation from here more often than I go on vacation traveling this country.Emphasis mine.
A big IF and that's the problem.
It's the "IF" I am the most concerned about.Emphasis mine.

I agree and sympathise with the guy. He's in a tough spot. I wonder if he chose us as one of the first places to get answers. Like I said earlier, first he was asking for direct answers. Actual numbers. THen after a little discussion, having someone with some knowledge, and geographically close, could come to the cars and parts and give an estimate. Selling it all as a package is a tall order but possible for the right buyer.Put your yourself in the shoes of the guy who posted the ad. His Dad has died, leaving a horde of stuff that he is not interested in, not does he know the value of it. He would like to see the stuff go to those that could use it. For him, it would be easiest to see it go as a package deal, rather than parcel it out a few pieces at a time. He could be the estate executor, trying to clear things up for eventual sale of the property, to divide among siblings. I have been put in this position myself, so can sympathize with the guy.
I've always had people hitting me up for legal advice, the number actually willing to pay for it, extremely small. When I retired my license, the bar association buried me with opportunities to work for free. No thank you. When I was in school, I was expected to pay my tuition with actual money. You guys can use more work for free, you know, pro bono. It sounds great, on paper, bring it on.
I've been the last man standing many times, I get it. I've held auctions several times and had to bid on my own house to get the price up. Instinctively, greed is a person's fair price. I hired a reputable auction house once and was told that there would be people he knew there to bid on my house, not a problem I was told. They didn't come and the look on his face when I bid on it myself was priceless. He thought is was going to go for next to free. Can you imagine the conversation we had after it sold......... Fair price, my a**.Put your yourself in the shoes of the guy who posted the ad. His Dad has died, leaving a horde of stuff that he is not interested in, not does he know the value of it. My wife shilled for me when I sold GTX number 3 at auction. This was after getting low balled for six months on the open market. Sold for nearly twice the amount at which the action stalled prior to her first bid. Purchased by a dealer, who then sold the car for a third more than his purchase price.
