Well...yesterday was hell...I had to drive a wedding so left early. As I was just a few miles from home, I noticed she was running on 7. I stopped and indeed...1 sparkplugwire fall of because it was melted (molten?). So, I drove back home to a nearby US-car shop and they donated a wire.
So...still on time, heading for the wedding. The drives like **** (excuse my french). I made it through the day, but at the end...she just died. When the newly weds where in church, I called Road Assistance. We did some checks and it seemed like a broke fuelpump. There was no fuel coming so RA installed a spare electrical pump. Right on time, because the couple was just leaving church!
Now, with a fresh fuelpump we where good to go...that's what I though, that's NOT what the car though. Had to stop twice on my way back home. She still drives like ****.
- When throttle up, she holds back all of a sudden (sometimes)
- When driving constant speeds (highway) she stotters
Well...she's now at the local mopar-shop having her gears changed and also...a motor checkup. The tech-guy also mentioned that it could be the diaphram OR the pushrod that is slowly being eaten by the camshaft...
As for US-cars...luck is really not on my side and will probably be the last...Hope all works out well. Keep you guys posted!
A pushrod can't be eaten by the cam. They don't come into contact with each other. However, a lobe on the cam may be going away which will make that pushrod seem like it's to short, but that will be because of the lobe and damage to the lifter.
Well...the pushrod was eaten. Maybe not by the cam, but it was eaten. The shop told me this was the second time in a short period that a problem like that occured. They blame the quality of the pushrod. Now they installed a used one from an older engine. Hopefully this will work out fine...
how is that possible are they installing the push rod with out the lifter some how nothing that spins is touching the rod the cam spins and the lifter rides on that then the rod rides on the lifter and simply gets pushed up and down i could possiblly see getting a bent push rod but not eaten. im questioning the ability of your mechanic im not trying to be rude but if the rod is actually getting eaten something is not put together correctly
I don't know but I can imagine that the rod wouldn't fit without the lifter so I doubt the fact that the lifter is missing. 5mm was "eaten" from the rod.
No you are not rude. I trust my mechanic more than a 100%. He's a very experienced engine builder (also builds hemi's for tractor pulling). He's also amazed and yes, making mistakes is human but making this (big) mistake twice is probably zero.
In my imagination, the cam is spining, the lobe is pushing the lifter and the lifter is pushing the rod which, on its turn, is pushing the fuelpump lever. I don't know on which side the rod was gone, I will ask that.
they also see a big magnetic drain plug , you need it to get also to remove the metal out of your engine , so all that fine metal is not tearing up your crank and bearings .
With your "diesel problem" also known as "detonation" in the cylinders. The deck height of your block, the height of your pistons and your heads. This can easliy be fixed by the thickness of your head gaskets. Will also lower and raise your compression.
