Stock axle strength/ how fast are you with them

FYI, Mike Gaines is right. If you've got more than 500 HP or do N02, you need a Dana or at minimum aftermarket axles MW, Strange, Moser 35 spline. This gets you the durability you want. Dana's are heavy but they don't break.

Well other then the Detroit Locker center section in my 8-3/4 rear its all stock. Yes it still has stock axles that looked good when I last had them out a few years ago. But that said I dont race alot as its only been once a year lately. Years back I had a 340 Dart 4-speed that ran a best ever of 11.94 and it twisted the stock axles so bad I could not put them back in. But its a stick car and I launched it hard. My 63 is an auto car which the auto is much easier on the drivetrain as I just footbrake when I race as it has no trans brake. Ron

I went 11.0's with stock axles, 3650 lbs auto/foot brake. When I pulled them for aftermarket axles the splines on the adjuster side were twisted. I speculate that it twisted because there was not enough spline engagement due to the adjuster.

I run a street/strip 69 roadrunner with a factory 489 rear chunk and stock axles. It is good for high 6's in the 1/8 mile with a 60 foot of 1.52. This is with a 175 hp of NOS and 11 inch slicks. Call me lucky but my axles still look new. I have been told by local Mopar drag racers that once I break into the 6 second range then I'm going to need a Dana.

Hey take your chances with an 8 3/4 even with aftermarket axles. Some folks seem to have them live. I decided that a Dana 60 with good aftermarket axles would save me parts breakage at the track & cost. I don't think that was ever a bad decision. No breakage, races won.

The list of guys who wished they'd gotten a Dana will always be bigger than the list of guys that regretted getting one!
