Anyone had problems with TCI Trans. and Converters A727.?
Talked to them on Trans. with trans. brake manual rev. shift and converter, for My 68 Charger Drag Car only, 950 HP to 1000 HP. gave them all the info. on the car. Came up with a great price, but
still wondering if anyone has had any problem with them?
I all so checked with John Cope Racing, but way out of MY price range.
I know some times lower prices does not help if you have problems with the products.

I've used a few of their products in the past, I had good luck with them...
I didn't have it behind a 1000 hp thou... only street cars way back in the 70's-80's-90's
for that level of performance, I'd spend the money & go with much more of a racing set-up,
like better/stronger planetaries,
hardened input & output shafts,
billet drum,
bolt in sprag/overrunning clutch,
Kevlar clutches/metals,
manual valve-body...

If TCI offers them & your comfortable using them & their quality, the only way to know is try them...

sometimes that higher price is a reflection of the parts needed to live too...

There's allot of great aftermarket transmission pieces out there,
Cope Racing is one of the better ones...
Coan Racing
A&A Racing
Phoenix Racing
PTC {Performance Torque Converter}
Mikes Transmission {in SoCal, not sure if he's still in business anymore or not}
I've used all the above at one time or other,
behind several different racecar combos, with relatively good success...

SMR Transmission,
{I haven't used them but know a couple people that have had good experiences with them}

I've used a few of B&M parts,
TCI,
Turbo-Action
& even Mopar Performance Transmission & Converter parts too,
have had good luck with most of them for street/strip car stuff...

Google is your friend...LOL, try searching 727 Torqueflite Transmission Performance Parts

also the search function at the top right of the page here, maybe try to enter
Torqueflite transmission & Torque converter,
there's been a ton of posts on the subject...

I'd recommend getting this book too,
"Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook"
by Carl Monroe HPBooks-1399 {he is the owner of TSR Racing Products}
I've never used his Trans, but the book has been a great help
It's getting a little dated now, but it's all still completely relevant,
it has a ton of no BS great fixes, tricks & upgrades along with few suppliers & names/contact information...

good luck

TCI JUNK!!!
Depending on your HP level, I would go with A & A parts and a ultimate sprag and billet steel drum.Red eagle alto clutches and steels and a wide smooth band If you're making alot of power, you'll need a A & A front 5 pinion steel planetary. a nice deep aluminum trans pan.
Any good trans. shop can put these parts in for you.

As far as a converter, i like ATI, PTC, or A1
Turbo Action makes a nice converter as well.

I've been out of the game a long time, but it was 50/50 years ago with TCI. I have a Cope trans in my "new" Satellite & it's been great. His parts combinations seem like they make sense for big power & durability. I had real good luck with my Coan converters year ago.

Met this guy not to long ago, and he referred me to that same book. He rebuilt his own transmission and it came out BADA**!

I build my own. Good drum and valve body will go a long way. Currently my car has the stock low roller, 3 pin planets stock input and output shafts. All have functioned 200 passes in the 9.20 range @3340lbs w/o issue. I believe a Super Sprage is a good upgrade, though I've never had an issue with a stock part. With a trans brake I would run a steel front planet carrier.

here's a short list of some decent suppliers
some better than others of course, some will be repeats too

low end
TCI
B&M Racing
Turbo-Action [Better of the bottom dwellers, I like their valve bodies]
Mopar Performance

better parts
A-1 Performance
A&A Racing
ATI Torque Converters
FTI Performance Torque Converters
Coan Racing
Cope Racing
Hughes Performance Converters
Neal Chance Converters
PTC Performance Torque Converters
Ultimate Converter Concepts
Phoenix Racing
Griner Engineering
TCS Products
SMR Transmissions [not sure about race stuff, but they have a nice OD]
TSR Racing Products

I'm sure there's others too, that's off my favorites list anyway

My 65 light blue dodge was supposed to have the upgraded front steel 5 pinion planetary but it didn't but with over 1000 hp, it stripped the aluminum right out of it.
1.24 60 foots with a 3400 lb. car doesn't help either.

yeah when you make that kind of power, using any brand of automatic trans
it will eventually find the weak link, that's for damn sure, Murphy's Law...LOL

I build my own transmissions also but I only make about 600 hp and I have used Dynamic and Turbo Action conveters and parts with great results. I got to be honest I dont always here much good about TCI. With that kind of power I myself would not go with TCI. John Cope of CRT has a good rep and I hear of many happy people using his tranny's. If you dont build your own and are paying someone to build your trans I would go with Cope trans or another trans shop with a good rep. I just dont hear good thinks about TCI that much. Ron

Personally we use A&A stuff. However I would not hesitate to use John Cope either. As for TCI... If I were running a glide then I might look at them. But for Torqueflites stick with A&A or Cope... all they do is Torqueflites.

I should have mentioned that too, almost all the guys that were happy with TCI ran Glides.

I went with Cope as I didn't want to do it twice. We had a good conversation on my use HP level and what I expected. Came up with a good combo and hope to have it soon. He told me he had already started on the trans, and had ordered the gearvendor OD & other parts.

I use Pro Trans. Dave and Darren make alot of the parts. Cope is another good one. Good luck

My Protrans was $6700.00
I don't think they are any cheaper than that so i think the OP isn't looking for anything that extravagant.

Years ago I rebuilt a Ford AOD transmission with the TCI "Street Fighter" rebuild kit for my then owed 1990 5.0L LX Mustang (yes I used the F word sorry. Lol) I had no problems, it worked well and I was hard on that poor thing, however mine was a street driven car with very low power!
