Got the Block and crank and parts back from the machinist last week. Block was bored 030 for new flattops. Assembled the short block after checking all the bearing clearances and ring end gaps. Rods were checked and resized with new arp bolts. Used the Fel Pro upgrade rear main seal , used plenty of gold rtv .Definatly dont want to see a leak down the road. Still waiting for the heads from the shop. Putting in hardened valve seats and spring set up for Comp Ex Energy 274 Hyd cam. Gettin tired of waiting on heads though. I told him he's got 1 more week to get them done , or Im comin to get them and take them elsewhere. He's already had my $h** for 6 weeks. Meanwhile while waiting I got into the A833 4 spd. I had a rebuild kit I bought from Ed Hartnet long time ago. Trans was pretty clean inside, blocking rings looked good , bearings felt good, no broken or chipped gears. Cases of course where filthy so I decided to just go ahead and put in all the new parts and save the good old ones after I stripped and repainted cases. I recorded the paint marks on the cases so I can reproduce them later. Turned out pretty nice I think. In killing time I also set up a buffing rig to use outside and buffed up some of the stainless trim for the rear and front windows and driprails. Unfortunatly I found out that the glass guy I had put in the rear glass, left it too high on the right upper corner , so now my trim wont fit. Im gonna take it back out myself(PIA) and redo it using the Butyl tape these guys suggested on this site.NOW WHERE ARE THOSE HEADS ???
Your 833 looks brand new! Great job.. I hope that guy doesn't try to tell you he had a hard time cleaning those heads getting them ready as good as everything looked. Someone must have taken very good care of this car, i don't think ive ever seen one this young and the engine look so clean. Good luck!
Yes, it has been some time since I posted on this thread, but I have been making progress. Finally got my heads back after quite an ordeal. Don't even want to talk about it. Assembled heads and adjustable rockers , Intake. valve covers, Etc. Finally got it outside this week and painted it with single stage urathane paint that was matched to the original color. Tightened up a few things on the front inner wheel wells that would be easier to get to now. Brake valves and lines and such. The Big day will be Monday. Will move RR from upper bay to lower, where the car lift is and install drivetrain. Will spend today sorting through and painting hardware for install process. Want to make sure I have everything I need at hand when I need it. Will definatly take and post pics of process.
Hey Mitch, Are you droping the drivetrain in through the top, or is it going in from the bottom on the K frame? If you need another set of hands give me a shout.
Hey Ken, Motor will go in from the top as the K member is already installed. Also , since I have a lift in my shop , Im gonna install just the motor first , then bellhousing and transmission from below. I think that gives me the best chance of not scratching any thing.
Shane, I really cant give you a code, so to speak. What I did was get a spray can of the correct engine color from a local member from this site , and paint a cookie sheet with it. Sent it to the professinal paint shop and had them scan it.Told them I wanted single stage urathane. I think I bought 2 qts for around $60. The brand is Nassin. I hope it holds up as good as it looks now. Setting up today to install it in the car tomorrow.
