There was no way IN HELL.

My mom tried once and took me to a fairly expensive salon around 1985.
It took them over 2 hours and they got "close", but it only lasted until I washed it.

My hair was so hard to tame that nearly all "regular" barbers failed.
I can only describe what it wanted to do with any length as "mushroom afro".
In the 90's I started cutting it myself and pre-dated the "Simon Cowell" look.

Funny, what I have now is almost exactly what's in that photo.

It only took 40 years!

Consider this - I honestly don't like getting my hair cut. I only go to one hair stylist I used to date 30 years ago. I've had very short hair, medium length, and for the past 4 -5 years it's been long. Other than shampoo and conditioner, I use ZERO hair products. I don't give my hair a whole lot of thought. Shorter hair for me entails using moose or gel or some crap OR my hair will do whatever it wants.
If I start losing my hair, I'll go the Phil Collins route - and be happy with it.
Bottom line for me is that if my wife likes my hair, that's all I care about.

When I come across old photos from the 70’s/80’s I cringe at the hairstyles and clothes I wore; but back then a lot of people were walking around looking like clowns anyway. Lol, one time when my mother was reading me the riot act, I tried to hold back laughing as she was wearing some outfit with something like a green frog pattern. She got more peeved seeing me smiling…said “Ma how am I supposed to take you serious wearing those what, frogs you got on?” She still wasn’t amused..

Luckily, I have a full head of hair as does my old man and both my grandfathers.

I go once a month for a haircut and shave/beard trim. AT A PROPER BARBER.

It's very much like this...

Been going to Tony for 15+ years. He is a consummate professional. He cuts my hair so well, I don't even need to put any product in it (not that I would anyways) for it to look the way I want.

I did think about growing a long flowing grey beard.....but then it would be a little awkward wearing my mask.....

....what with all the 'clock springs' hanging out the bottom.

at least we weren't the generation who decided big holes in the ear lobes and facial piercing is cool........ talk about a clown show

Oh, I had me some unmanageable hair all my young life...
Paid darn good money to go to some place like Hair Cuttery, where
they'd layer and blow dry and all that and it'd look decent - until
the next day, anyways.

Finally, in my 30's I'd had enough. Bought my own electric clipper
kit and started cutting it myself; I figured hell, I can screw it up as
well as they can and save myself a bundle doing so, right?
Still do to this day - I stick the 1/2" attachment on it and let 'er rip. :)

wow.....they still make them...... not exactly cheap either....... 4 and 5 star reviews
