We attended the party on Friday and Saturday. The weather was great and the attendance was huge. Someone said around 950 cars but that was an early figure. I was mainly concerned with the swap meet both days. I sold lots of stuff. I could see the end of the drag strip both days and it was rocking. Lots of open headers.

The show was technically a Hot Rod show and there were lots of beautiful examples from all across the country. About 1/3 were Rat Rods. We spoke to a guy who brought his car from New Jersy. The show and race was limited to '72 and earlier so we brought the '71 Challenger. My son Bryce raced it probably 25 times and it held up like a trooper. He beat a lot of cars but some of those Hot Rods and Rat Rods don't weigh anything and they've got a Hemi or a big block with a blower and they were killing everybody. A few really fast 1st Gen Camaros too.

The bands were mostly Rockabilly and were great. Saturday a band was playing on a platform right above the drag race starting line. You can see that platform in the pictures with the girls. The party really got going after dark. Lots of bands on a big stage with folks dancing. One band was set up on a big trailer and was being hauled around by a restored John Deere tractor. They visited all the spots on the infield. There was a pin-up girl contest and Bryce got a picture with the 1st and 3rd place girls. We missed the late-night burlesque show.

There was a burnout competition that was a great big area for people doing donuts. Not just sitting in one spot. Lots of popped tires. I didn't see the drift car presentation and didn't make it over to the vintage camper section. Just too many things going on.

PPIR is a high banked oval track so the infield is huge. They let cars "cruise" around the oval just for fun. PPIR is pretty lax on their rules and by Saturday night those cars were really scooting on the track. So many pit bikes, old bicycles and go-karts cruising around because the event was so big. I borrowed a guy's bicycle so I could see it all.

We were kind of pooped out by 8:00 pm but the alcohol and bands went to whenever. As cars were leaving we swooped down and got some pictures with some cool cars. There was a hangover party this morning with breakfast and Bloody Marys but no thanks. Price for all three days to show a car and drag race was $15.

My B Bodies are not in great enough shape this year to take them to show but there was a fair amount of Mopars. Bryce is going to put together a video which I will share with you guys.

Many thanks to Pikes Peak International Raceway for such a great party!
