I know this topic has been kicked around many times on FBBO but I need to start another thread. I have been looking at pics of all you guy’s cool rides, following threads and asking questions since I joined FBBO and I’m still torn.

The Rim / Tire question has me twisted. I have never been a fan of the big rim, low profile tire look but the Pro Touring craze is starting to grow on me. As we all know, the correct Rim/Tire combo is a fine line between puking and having an orgasm.

As some of you know my Bird is inching closer to re-assembly, but in the meantime I like to ponder the dynamics of exactly what I’mgoing to do. Definitely heavy, solid HP and drive train but the Pro Touring look? Don’t plan on driving it more than 5K-8K miles a year but plan on showing it. I want the right look.

15 inch rim, tall side walls? 20 inch rims low profile tires? Again, the Pro Touring thing appeals to me but I’m basically an old school kind of guy.

I stumbled across the pic below today. Some of you guys may know the car. From this angle, to me, looks bad to the bone. 22” rims in back, 20” in front. Damn. I can see 17” in front and 18” in back but what the hell do I know?

Help.

my personal likes & in my personal opinion, are no bigger than 16's or 17's front & 17's or 18's rear "at the biggest" or you start to tread on the cartoonish or roller skate look on the older muscle cars... still can get good size brakes in them & decent tire selection too... unless the car is really low then the bigger rims look ok to me... my $0.02 cent take of leave it, it's your car, your the one that needs to be happy, not me...

X2 on that 747Mopar . . . we seem to have very similar likes from what I've seen . . . I like the look too ! ! !

I like 38"s and a little larger in the front .. especially if it's original equipment

I've been tinkering around with the idea of larger wheels and tires and the pro touring look myself.. something along the lines of HYRDGOON's ride

When I started my build thread, I think I lost some friends when I posted I was gonna put 17 or 18s on my car.lol all I heard was 15s. I love 17s or 18 on these big cars. Mine are all 17 X 9 and they fill up the fender wells. When people walk up the first thing they say is I love the wheels.

There is no question that the GOON has nailed it. I love the look and stance. Maybe a twist or two to drop the front end a touch. I love a little rake.

I agree that the 17's look great. Maybe even 18's in the back. I love the 17's on Jeff's, those are just a great updates to the classic looking rims. If you go much larger then you starting loosing some ride quality, that's my opinion.

Gotta agree "that looks pretty damn nice" and has the right stance. I really like Jeff's too but would raise it just a fuzz in the rear "I like a little rake".

here is my 69 gtx im running 18-10s in rear and 18-8s in front.

The thing about big wheels is you gotta drop the body down over em or else they look silly. Come to think of it, little rims look silly like that too. I like the staggered look, 17s and 18s are a safe bet, look damn good, and you can still get some sidewall (hint: look at sport truck tires. They often have the 50 or 55 series tires that are hard or impossible to find in a P tire). I run 16s and 15s on my car because I like the proportions of em. Take lots of measurements to get it right the first time, but the main point is: you HAVE to lower the car some to get it to look right.

Personal preference is everything here. Wheels should compliment the overall design, not overwhelm it. 15's for me.

Tough to decide - but I really like the way the rear wheel fills in the rear wells on this car, great stance, and it's got the little rack to it that I think it needs for the proper look.

Still got a ways before I'll be fighting with tires and wheels.

This one's got a good look ( maybe a little more rack ) but it also has the deep dishes on the rear . . .

Fill wheel wells? Stance? These 15's just don't cut it. : ) Pro Touring is an overated term.

I have 17's all around. Tires are 225 55 17. 17 was as small as I could go to clear the calipers on the brakes from an 07 Charger. I get about 1/4" on the front..clearance. I wanted the tallest sidewall I could get and was also working toward staying as close to the Charger wheel diameter for computer swapping/trans speed controller issues. My ride ht has not been determined yet as we have not re-installed the drivetrain yet but I think this classic look with the Torq Thrusts look real good without being obvious that they are a larger than stock size wheel.
BTW, 17" world has no where near the selection in tire size as many other diameters, something to consider as well.

That pic got chopped off for some reason???
