The Old Wheel Size / Tire Size Debate..Pro Touring?

I guess I will be a 15in wheel with 70 series tire guy until I die. I don't have to worry about brent wheels like on my BMW with 18's. But each to his own.

here is my 69 gtx im running 18-10s in rear and 18-8s in front.

I like it Barelad, that floats my boat. Now, 20 questions. (Same questions for you Darius)
What size tires on both ends?
What are the offsets on both ends?
Did you have to do any mods to the rears to stuff em under?
Do you have a closer shot of the bottom pic, more of a full side view?

im running 275-40s in rear and 235-40s in front and the rear has a 4.5inch backspacing and front have a 3.5inch backspacing. and no mods they went on perfect.

IMO if this car were built today. There is no way you would find one with anything less than 17". Let's face it, less side wall better handling. Yes? These b bodies are massive boats. My FX4 comes with 18" with the 20" option. Compare to a truck in the 80's it would have had 14-15".

Either way, these cars look hot! I imagine if some of these guys had the option back in the day. They would have put these "goofy" wheel sizes on as well. Just look at what was cool back in the day. Pizza cutter 4" wide in the from and the fattest tire out back with the back end jacked up. Ya that was cool before.

Do what you like though and don't worry what anyone else says. Including me.

Room for more meat (width) in the rear or are you maxed out?

This one's got a good look ( maybe a little more rack ) but it also has the deep dishes on the rear . . .

that 68 GTX Hemi is narrowed, tubed & tinned car, 20"x14"-15" wide rims & wide tires, not a stuff it under a stock wheel well pro-touring car, more of a Resto-Mod, kind of a mix of new & old Pro Street... but a very cool car none the less, an ol' magazine car from Mopar Muscle IIRC

15's all the way....Don't knock the old school! Not a fan of the Hotwheels look, but just my preference.

Good luck what ever route you go, be it 17's...18's......22's or swampers. Your money, your Plymouth, put your stamp on it. Hope it turns out well for you.

There is a lot more room I think I could fit an 18-12 with a 6.5 inch backspacing under it but it might rub the quarter lip on the passenger side cuz of the offset of the drivetrain

ive got 285 40s on the rear of mine, and 275 40s in the front and theres 1/2 in at least everywhere

Never knock the old school. All of them look so good.

Didn't you have a Coronet as well Prop?

I sure did Kev...... Sad to say the old yellow Dodge now lives in a hanger south of here. Sold it to a pilot friend this past summer. The car has a good home/owner, so it gives me a good piece of mind. That car had 14" Magnum 500's. IMO, those were too small for the car, proportion wise. Didn't go well with the big hips, but again...my own prospective.

I may be the only one with this opinion, but call me old-school ( I am) because I personally think these big wheel-skinny sidewall wheel/tire combos look bizarre. It's like drawing a mustache on a Mona Lisa. But, to each his own. My current car looks just like the way I drove around in the 70's.

Thanks Bud, what size exactly on the rears for the second one down and what is the back offset?

Nothing wrong with old school that's why I'm torn, I like em all and for what it's worth guys, I know it's mine and I will do what I want so you can spare me that lecture. Got some good ideas, specs and input from all of you. Thanks a bunch.

It's impossible to please everyone so just go with what you like. I like the 15" wheel look but I think the 17-19" wheels fill the wheel well a bit better. I went with 18x8 and 18x10 on my charger and love the way it looks and handles.

Sweet Charge, the chin spoiler looks really good too.

Sweet Charge, the chin spoiler looks really good too.

Indeed plus you Charger guys get the added bonus of the stock rear wheel wells that can accept a bit larger tire than Birds, GTXs and such, at least the early ones......I think.

If you want to nail the fitment down and max out the wells this is what you need, it allows you to see how any given combo will fit. I'll go ahead and warn you now on the pricing and fitment, if you want a set of wheels for a fair price they are usually going to be cast aluminum 9.5 wide with 4.5 backspacing for the rears (one size fits all). When you start wanting different widths and offsets you mostly go into the made to order billet wheel makers with the prices being north of $500.00 each. A good wheel for you to look at since you like the Torue Thrust look is the Boss 383 "pretty cheap and nice". Good LuckPHP-01201_ml.jpg2rc4d8k.jpg
