Could this skew be a balance issue?
seriously doubt it. either the cranks journals are all wacked or the bolts/studs are cocking the caps.Could this skew be a balance issue?
I must apologise for not seeing those shells were worn thru to copper - it was after midnight here and perhaps I need my eyes checked!:icon_cyclops_ani:

Your BANNED to Hell in a handbasket...LOL
are you using factory bolts or studs?
When we tore down my sons turbo small block last year we saw this same wear pattern on a few main bearings. The line hone was checked as was the crank journals and balance. All was done at the beginning of the season. All specs were still good. We attributed it to making 700+ with a stock 360 cast crank and block. The thought was the caps may have been flexing for and aft. The strange thing was that the thrust surface looked perfect. We did put a main stud girdle on it this time around. How do the mating surfaces of the main caps look? Pitted? I'd get it it all measured up, fix what's wrong if anything and build it.My concern as well .
bolts or studs?I believe they are ARP
I doubt a high residual imbalance will cause that but having everything checked might be a good idea anyway.
What does the back of the bearing look like? The area on the other side of the coppered spot.
Are the main caps marked with numbers, and when you tore it down, were they located right?
Any of them backwards?
Hey guys--
Just spoke with the head guy at a machine shop near where I'm at. I went there to talk to him about some work I was thinking about doing to my block, and while I was there I showed him these pictures of my bushings. He wasn't too shocked... He said that when he would do any work on my block he could check the alignment first regardless, just to make sure his other measurements would be accurate.
He also claimed that it could be from fuel contaminating the oil due to the fact that this car was at the race track often. Another thought of his was that the caps could have been mis-torqued.
They had numbers cast into them, and they were located right. Thanks!
