Throttle/kickdown linkage adjustment help

I thought about that, I have some smaller diameter springs that will fit inside the return spring, and I have seen this on some cars. However, the spring that holds the kick down lever forward does not have a lot of tension, but if the main throttle spring broke, I could see how that may be a problem. Thanks for the heads up!

Actually, the kickdown spring will never pull the throttle back setup that way, the first lever is secured at the rear spring point, all it will ever do, is keep the kickdown pulled forward, and it's always good to have a double throttle spring for safety, but the throttle will return without it from the carb springs.

point #1 cannot pull the first lever farther than it already is at point #2, point #2 is fixed. Basically, it's squeezing together, keeping the slack out of the first lever, a lot of first levers(mine included) has a screw/nut in the open slot for additional adjusting, sliding the screw/nut forward or backwards in the slot adjusting that length, and the second spring keeps it in position.

Yes, you are correct Old_Skool, however, I checked my carb and since I am using an original thermoquad, the carb springs on the butterfly are weak enough that if the main throttle return spring failed, the throttle will not fully return to idle position. This may be due in part to some drag of the throttle cable, as there was no problem with the return before I put it on the car. I may have to lube the throttle cable and see if that improves. Anyway, I have a second return spring on the way.

Yes, safety first. The carb is a new build, its just old, and not all the springs and such are available to my knowledge. It runs good has great response, but I may not stay with original and may go to an edlebrock eventually.

That's what I put in mine

I noticed the lever on the trans for throttle pressure (top) was cracked and probably from factory in a few places I wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't taken it off to replace the seals.... make sure to lube everything and when swapping from 2-4 barrels the sweep of the carb opening from closed to full is shorter 4bbl is wider and the linkage is forward of the 2bbl so even though you can get by with either linkages the right one for the right set up is 1000% better than a mix match in this area and the master tech videos are assume for information.... the kick down lever does more than what most think and has too be right or you will be chasing problems around and never get the most happiness out of the car
