I thought about that, I have some smaller diameter springs that will fit inside the return spring, and I have seen this on some cars. However, the spring that holds the kick down lever forward does not have a lot of tension, but if the main throttle spring broke, I could see how that may be a problem. Thanks for the heads up!
Actually, the kickdown spring will never pull the throttle back setup that way, the first lever is secured at the rear spring point, all it will ever do, is keep the kickdown pulled forward, and it's always good to have a double throttle spring for safety, but the throttle will return without it from the carb springs.
point #1 cannot pull the first lever farther than it already is at point #2, point #2 is fixed. Basically, it's squeezing together, keeping the slack out of the first lever, a lot of first levers(mine included) has a screw/nut in the open slot for additional adjusting, sliding the screw/nut forward or backwards in the slot adjusting that length, and the second spring keeps it in position.
