Time for a show lets see the 71-74's

Since it's National Classic Car Appreciation Day, thought I'd finally post some pix of the Big Red Bird that I'm named after.

Ill second that Sweeeet!!! That is one fancy looking engine bay! One quick question, Did you build the cup holders in your console? Thats one problem in mine, and i seem to spill things setting them on my console.. I like that and never seen one like it..

Thanks guys - and yeah Ron, that cupholder console is a custom job. I really hated those 1970s-style "window clip" can holders, so when I replaced the latch button and realized that the console lid has about 1.5" of empty space between its top and bottom layers, I picked up a couple of beer-can poker table inserts from a guy on eBay. Tricky to measure for center because the lid's curved and sits offset on the console, but once that's done the rest is easy with a hole saw and some black ATV.

I may make this a project this winter, every bit worth it, i never did like those ones either and there just really isint a place to put one of those console like ones in.. think ill see if i may be able to find a couple of those, one most likely would be enough but my wife gos with me a lot, once in awhile someone rides along so i think you had/have a great idea. Thanks a bunch!

you have a couple of nice details on that! is that a grant wood grain wheel? i have been interested in one for a while do you like it?

Yep, it's a Grant wheel, 15" -- the car came to me with a 13" that just looked... pimpy. (Apologies to everyone on FBBO who's got a 13" wheel! :icon_redface:) This one feels good but on long drives I start to wish there was a little bit of padding somewhere on it. And there's only a 1" dish so I had to bend the turn signal arm back quite a bit to clear my hand while turning.

Are your instruments new or are they decals? Also is that a cap because the grain looks completely different?
Thanks

...and is that an export car, or just an export tag?

The dash is capped, and the only new instrument is the tach, which replaced a clock. The rest are original and were restored by a guy named John Manush at 2K Inc. in Iowa, who brought the whole cluster back to life (he even polished the odometer numbers and reset them to the mileage on the new motor). The "export tag" is on there for its "Made in U.S.A." feature to remind the rice-burner crowd of what real American steel looks like.

Did you use a factory or repro tach, or did you find something that fits the hole and looks right?
I did the latter on my 70 Bee, but I'm currently looking for a stand in for my 72-74 Rallye dash collection.

It seems I've been subconsiously collecting 72-74 B body cars.
I had to get four of them before I found one in my price range that can actually be driven on the street. :)
It's the only one that didn't come with a rallye cluster from the factory.

The other three (Chargers) all have it. Actually one was missing, but I have two spares- one with a good bezel, and one with a good gauge pack (and the clock), the others have the fuel gauge, but the messed up one has a blank, and I'm hoping I can refit.

OK, that's a repro. 2 bills is not horrible (were almost 4 a few years ago) but was hoping to spen $50 or less. Maybe I should buy another parts car.....

bigredbird, Thats a beauty of a bird! I didn't know they made those type of valve cover hold downs anymore.. The main reason i wanted to post though, I don't see anyway to buy a factory tach and put in mine, im not looking to do it anyway, But they must make two different style Rally clusters between 71-74.
