Time to hit the Track.

Slow, but I keep chipping away. Just a thought, what RPM are you launching at? Sometimes a lower rpm will give a better launch & better et.

Glad to hear there's progress. Don't get it completed too fast, the build is as good as the rest.
The last launches were at 3000, as low as the dial would go. I'm very optimistic that I'm going to hit the nail on the head and get the old girl launching good, thanks to the helpful suggestions here.

Boy that thing is going to fly when you get it dialed in. I figured you were t 3500-3750.

Thanks 69GTX. I'm keeping after it, and it's going to come. The biggest change this year was the Ultimate converter I believe and it spanks those tires good with solid TQ. I've got to make a couple of mods under the car and there's tubes on order. (listening to the knowledgable fast guys). Into the 9's? Just once, maybe twice. How's your sweet GTX coming?
Malex, I also think adding tubes will help stabilize your "crushing" the slicks. My rush to 9 seconds is a bit slower than yours as my new engine is stalled at the moment. Plan to install the current GTX engine in my '65 Dodge Coronet street ride. Time and money!!

Don’t beat on it too hard or you’ll be like Barney. :D

Yeah that was a bad day for you. I felt bad seeing you laying under your car all day. If I wasn’t trying to find my own issues I would have been more help. The good news was that you didn’t have to drop the trany and you were back at it on Sunday. Kudos though for getting at it like you did.

So an update on solving my suspension issues.
In this picture you can see where the tire tread is starting to lift off the hoist.
This is at 2-3/4" raised height.

In this picture below, there is now daylight beginning to show under the centre.
This is at 3-1/8" raised height.

The picture below is my shackles at normal ride height.

The problem is that the top shackle hole was installed too far back and the leaf spring is restricted from providing enough movement for the suspension and cal tracs to do their job. Calvert says a minimum of 4" travel. My tires are dangling at 3" FFS.... This explains all the problems I've been having. Unfortunately I didn't notice this before but when measuring the actual amount of rise it became obvious and the story was told. Last year it wasn't a problem and stiffening the shocks took care of it at that time.

The good, easy, quick fix for this is to install a set of sliders. A great recommendation from Doug. There's also a set of tubes showing up to help keep the tires from crushing. I think it will be a different car next time out!

Malex, while perusing eBay last night I found a pair of 12 inch Super Tricks, actually a full set including fronts. I don't remember the back spacing but it might be worthwhile checking them out. The listing stated, he would separate the set. I think the price was $300.

Thanks !

Parts showed up and progress has been made.

Sliders are in place, went from 2-3/4" of upward travel with the shackles to 4-5/8" with the sliders. Over half again as much rise. Calvert says they like to see 4" of travel, I'm sure this will work well now. Instead of welding the sliders on I mounted them to some brackets that I fabricated and horizontally bolted them in place. Made sure to allow lots of forward slide. With them running on bearings there's absolutely no bind of any sort.

The Hoosier 29 X 10.5W's got a set of tubes installed. Was spinning and killing the sidewalls last time out, with the slider set up we'll see how these work next time out.

Also threw together a new set of Hoosier 29 X 12's with tubes. A full inch more tread than the 10.5's and the same 94" roll out. These have a full 12" of tread. Just not sure whether to try the 10.5's again or go straight to these. That baby powder sure stinks up a garage..

Will be setting the shocks the same as Mike Gaines sets his, hoping that I can get a similar launch to Mike as well.

malex, your ride just gets better every week hang in there looks and sounds like you are on your way look out here comes your magic number

I guarantee it'll be better, even on the 10.5's
Doug

would sliders be better for the street also or is that to much. seeing how i want double duty. just a thought

Your going to beat my personal best on July 14th. My bet is you will get the finger wag for dipping into the 9’s :D

This 3 week break before next race is too long. On a positive note Barney will have a new set of D60 gears to punish. :D

Malex, what brand of sliders are those and where did you find them? Looking good! Can't wait for the next update.

3 weeks is too long. Especially when our summer isn't much longer. What will be nice is to get consistentcy.

Doug put me onto them. They're from Speedway. The channel bracket on top is my own doing. The outer frame rail at the shackle area is 1.750, and I had some 2 X 3 X .125 here that I used to make channel with. Fit was bang on.
I left 1.250 rear slot travel when sitting at ride height and that gave more than enough travel both ways. The rear of my car came down about a half inch with the sliders.

malex, now with the sliders are in are the rear shocks loaded hard or soften up. also the pinion angle stays were it should because the body is lifting and the rear end is planting the tires. the cal tracs job is to hold the load from weight transfer and to help keep it straight.

Calvert says when using the transbrake to start with the rebound very soft and compression midway. Fine tune from there. Mike Gaines has it down pat with his Coronet and I believe he is close to what Calvert recommends.
With foot brake cars it's different, I can't recall those settings off hand.
