That is my dilemma, I am thinking of selling or trading my 65 Dodge Coronet ex race car for a streetable Mopar, wife says "let's street this one".
Just wondering about the cost of doing this.
Will need the following:
New hood
Windshield wipers and motor
Turn signals and brake lights hooked up
Leave battery in trunk or move back under hood?
Replace 15 gal fuel cell in trunk with stock gas tank
Replace electric fuel pump with stock one?
Transmission is currently reverse manual valve body with 2500 stall converter, not sure how streetable that would be.
Also currently has MSD AL7 ignition.
8 3/4 rear with 4.10 gears
Any thoughts and advice always appreciated as usual.

Sounds like the cheaper plan if you like the car. Although some insurance companies won't insure a car with a roll bar. That'd probably be my first thing to do is check on that.

From that list, the only thing I'd do is hook up lights/blinkers to get it street ready and maybe the the fuel cell if you plan on using the trunk. With those gears you'll be above 2500 rpm at cruising speed anyway so the converter is likely a wash.

Edit:

I just saw that big hole in the hood lol, so yeah maybe swap that.

I would hook lights and wipers change the hood scoop and drive it like it is

No need for wipers in Bull Head unless you plan on driving it to Florida.

That is just too sweet a ride not to go back to a street version. There's very little you need to do in your spare time to go back. Besides the money you'd probably spend on a new ride would more than cover the costs of streetability. Trust me, haven't seen too many around like that and I can't envision too many to take it's place.

I go along with ht413, leave batt in trunk(mines been there forever) but those manual valve bodies sure feel awful harsh on the street. What's been done to engine? ( carb, cam)

Stock 383 now

Definitely wipers-u never know what you'll run in to.

It is driveable locally now (a couple of miles) but what my wife really means is she wants to hit the highway with it......like drive it across state lines and such!

Well for sure the 4.10's are going bye-bye!3.23/3.55's

Awesome looking car, do the minimum to make it road worthy and dependable. It will surely draw a crowd!
My 67 is an old drag car Im working to put back on the street, keeping as much of the race themed equipment as I can.
Dont need no stinking wipers... Rain X works better anyways. When I apply it I never use my wipers until its worn off.

You're right about RainX....we don't need no stinkin' wipers, even in Florida!

Tires are the biggest worry in rain....if ya have a marginally-legal street-car. Wipers, horns, heaters/defrost, and treaded tires are for daily drivers.

I agree with just about everything said here.
1. New scoop
2. Add wipers
3. fix lights
4. leave battery in trunk
5. leave fuel cell (heck, my stock tank only holds 19 gal.)
6. fuel pump - probably switch to mechanical for wife (quieter)
7. leave in the 2500 rpm stall (almost stock)
8. manual valve body must go - can you put a stock one back in without taking the trans out? I think you can no problem.
9. 3.23 MAX (or maybe 2.94 or 2.76) gears
10. give your wife an extra set of keys (but put in an ignition cut-off switch..haha)

I drove my RPMVB on the street for years. It's not harsh if you shift it early enough (fine if you're just cruising anyway) and remember if you do spin the tires in first, you MUST shift to second before you let off. The other idea is a forward pattern manual/auto valve body. I wouldn't go back to stock. Stock sucks.

I drive a manual vb on the street - love it. Though mine has the rear band apply, so it's really a street / strip vb.
