Towing experiences.
Mom and Dad had a 61 313 3 on the tree Pioneer. Bumper clamp hitch.
Flat towed a 57 Meteor 150 miles, not too many hills.
“ “ 60 XK 120 200 miles “ “ “ “
I put lots of miles on our first still have 67 318 Charger pulling a camper, also a 16 foot 1957 Peterborough 18 hp Johnson, Home built frame hitch.
Pulled a 23 foot 350 inboard Reinell of my brother’s with another 318 67 Charger 150 miles dealer installed hitch, poor thing got down to 30 mph second gear coming out of the river valley.
1991 pulled a crank down camper with the 67 440 auto Charger to Aurora Missouri. It has a very heavy duty manufactured hitch, frame and bumper mount. On that trip came back through part of Oklahoma. Doing about 70 mph. Divided state highway, passed a slow moving farmer pulling a load of something. Few minutes later Jackie Gleason turned his lights on and pulled up beside me, cigar in his mouth. Flashed me with 5 fingers twice and carried on. Also on this trip was our son, nephew and a friend in a 67 Charger. Thought we were in Smokey and the Bandit.
Because we were at the TDC Meet we got roam around Ron Slobe’s Yard. He had STUFF!
1991, picked up two 66 Chargers in February one driver one no engine. They were 240 miles away. Had a 1976 350 full time Blazer. 12-13 miles per Imperial gallon whether you pulled anything or not. Picked the cars up. Coming back there was a long decline in a valley. All of a sudden there was a car coming down the other side. I slowed down and the tail of the dog tried to take over. Wide shoulders, steep ditches, used up the whole road, looking to go straight in the ditch if I had to. Got things straightened out. The oncoming car had slowed down, he wiped his forehead and gave me a thumbs up. Never flat towed anything again with that Blazer. Flat towed things with our trucks and 4Runners, because the longer wheelbase.
Have a friend that towed his 80 something Mustang 200 miles to the strip here to compete. Used a 1978 I think, old RCMP highway 440 Pursuit Plymouth Fury.
The fastest production car in North America.
I apologize if I have been redundant.
