Well, it's ready for the new bellhousing....:hello2:

Looks good, no damage anywere else ??, more safety is a good thing, is that the same trans that broke ??

I was told the shield wouldn't work when I bought the bell housing. They said the bell housing was to thick and would cause issues.I run a blanket with the bell housing.Yes it is a SFI bell housing. It doesn't protect you from a front drum explosion though!!!!

Yep, same trans.
I don't see anything else broken...... I think it popped the bellhousing quickly and I shut down right away! I hit the ignition then went through shutting everything else down quickly so if something drastic happened and I wrecked, I wouldn't have fuel pumping all over, water pump and fans shut down.
My ninja reflex was in full reaction on this one!!!:jerk:

Got the new bellhousing installed and the trans up close to the block.
The damn thing seems like the bellhousing is to short "not deep enough"! I cant get the converter any further back towards the pump and it looks like I have about 1/2" to go before it touches the block and the converter it tight against the flex plate?????
WTF?

It sounds like the converter isn't locking into the pump properly.

Installed bellhousing

It does sound like that, but it seems to be back all the way.... I'll drop it back down tomorrow and try to get it back further,,,, but I have my doubts....
Also, the starter flange looks as if it will be to far from the bellhousing to with the nose up in the hole??

Did you spin the converter and wiggle it a bit. Some times you have to lift up on the converter a little and spin it.

I had a converter give me a real hard time once.Had to keep spinning it,pull it back a hair and spin spin spin. Finally got the third "clunk" and I knew it was in

I've been following this thread off and on, and I apologize if I missed something earlier.

How certain are you that there was no damage to the converter and/or pump given how the bellhousing shattered? Seems like that's where any additional damage would be given the location of the failure.

Just a thought- might be a good idea to heli-coil the trans mount threads in the tailhousing, just in case they pulled out when the bell broke. At any rate they would be stronger. Might be cheap insurance after all you've been through- at least check them out closely.

I can't be 100% certain, but the trans was still completely engaged to the converter when I pulled it out and it didn't show signs of damage then. I also did what inspections you can before I slid it up onto the trans this time.

The trans tail mount threads are good. I guess I'll just use red loctite this time!

Just spit-balling here but, Maybe a piece of debris form something in the carnage or something broke inside the pump &/or converter blocking the key ways &/or splines from fully engaging, the input shaft or converter could be bent slightly, spline damaged, many many things could have happened with that type of carnage you had earlier... Did you flush out the pump & Converter best as humanly possible ??, make damn sure there is no broken or bent peices... Good luck, Happy Easter & Happy Moparing
