Turn the key and nothing happens..... HELP

So is that vacuum canister in roughly the same position as the old one was?

Or at least on the old dizzy was the vacuum canister on the left side?

Yeah the old dizzy i had about 5* initial timing so it was pointed at about 11 oclock, The new one im supposed to set it at 16* initial timing so that should be somewhere between 9-10 oclock and thats where i have it.

I just seen the video.....folks, that engine is waaay out of time...and i mean waaaay out....every engine i've ever heard that "pulsates" like that when turning over, was out of time...

You are correct. DAMN GOOD POINT!!! Forgot about the matchbbook cover I had in my glovebox for checking that. yes, use a matchbook cover if you don't have a brass feeler gauge.

Yea, wasn't Otherguy's vacuum canister on the opposite side?

Man, I hope I get this much help when I install my QA1 upper control arms later this week.
Yes but your not 18 years old either!

try twisting the distributor around some while your trying to start it...Be careful of backfire out of carb when doing this...

So you dont think its 180 out of time? The more I advance it the more it backfires. Im thinking it has to be 180 out because why would having the sparkplugs going in order counterclockwise be more on time then it being in the right order but just a little off??

someotherguy did you see my first video with the plug wires in order but going counter clockwise? it almost started

yea, that first video sounded soooooooooooooo close.

Firing order is - 1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2

Don't move distributor just yet - get that firing order correct.

That first video I agree sounded like it may have started if you would have just move the distributor a little advanced or retarted while cranking it over it may have started.

Yep i did, I just thought that order was supposed to be counterclockwise but them i changed it to 18436572 in clockwise order from #1 and thats what the second video was of.

Right! but why did the car sound way better trying to start when it was like 180 degrees off. Perhaps he should go back to the way he had it and mess with the timing while trying to start it.

Here's a stupid question. You did get the correct distributor right? The RB big block dizzys spin counterclockwise.

The timing wasnt 180* off but the order was reversed. Im thinking if i switch it 180* and then do the correct order then it should fire up.

well, on a side note, my paint job was a disaster today :sad5:

my water filter clogged up, so it kept filling my gun with water...ugh :0/

anyhow, back to regular programming

I ordered one for my 318. It looks just like my old one. So I just assume so i guess.

true, two negatives do equal a positive.

"The timing wasnt 180* off but the order was reversed. Im thinking if i switch it 180* and then do the correct order then it should fire up."

yeah, you need to get this all back to spec...then go from there...

Alright ill try switching the dizzy 180 then hand turning the crank to find #1 tdc and then putting the #1 plug where the rotor is and then do the right order in the clockwise direction.

The big block dist. advance tang goes around counter clockwise and the small block adv. tang goes around clockwise? I think! this is where it hooks into the advance plate.
