How is that? Neanderthals and Denisovans bred with Homo Sapiens, and new hominids are discovered on a regular basis. I don't think any science-oriented person would have a problem with the idea that there's an undiscovered hominid that mixed with Homo Sapiens - provided that hominid is less intelligent and extinct. Things only get uncomfortable when I suggest there's one that's more intelligent and not extinct, and start pointing out the evidence for it.

The stuff I am reading says we have a chance of 1 in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 of finding other forms of life in the universe. That's 10 to the 33rd power. I don't know if our chances are so slim because of the vastness (distances) involved or if it's just so improbable that all the unique factors happened on earth like the first single-cell organism or the huge jump to a multiple-celled organism and the quantum leaps that continue thereafter time and time again.

SteveSS I think that number is bogus. I suspect the first Viking lander found microbes on Mars. How could it not? Simple organisms can travel between planets on rocks that get kicked up by asteroid impacts. So, why would evidence of life on Mars be kept secret? Well, if you look at what we thought we could do in space vs how little we actually did in space (publicly, at least); I think its evident that we were purposely held back. That would have been much harder to do if life on Mars had been announced, and space exploration had caught the public's imagination.

IIRC one of the Viking lander scientists was convinced that they had found life.

And a couple days ago there was a story running about a chemical that could only be produced by life being detected on a distant exoplanet.

Speaking of giants, anyone who thinks an 8 ft tall man is ridiculous should visit the Museum of Natural History in Washington DC and see the Pleistocene megafauna. Sloths as big as cars, a deer as big as an elk. I remember looking up at the head of the deer skeleton and thinking, "O.K. we've got all these regular animals over here, but they're supersized; and over on that wall we've got primitive hominid skeletons that are all a normal size. Why no giant men?

Granted this is off-topic but did you see the recent Big Foot video from Colorado? Somehow Big Foot gets around well. From the Northwest to Florida. In Colorado, he was in an arid near desert area.
