Waking up the beast

really close to Hi 9's baby...LOL

you have the MPH

I put the 440 source distributor in and the car seemed fine with it. It went mid to high 10.50's. At the end of the runs i smelled a faint "burning wire" smell. I checked over the car thoroughly top to bottom and found nothing. That was on Saturday. Sunday morning I was going to test at Island. Before I left I checked over the wiring again and still found nothing. I pulled the distributor cap off for a peek under there and found my smell. I didnt have another cap for this dizzy. A stock chrysler one doesnt work. So I pulled the source one out and put a stock Chrysler unit in. Set the timing and hit the track. Its nice to find 3 tenths and 5 mph in half an hour with no money spent. :)

When I tried a larger spark plug gap the same thing happened to me. Also started drilling a few small hole in the cap to lower the temp inside the cap.
Once you dip into the 9's,that 10 oh class is very cometitive and no "licence" required.

Didnt open the gap to much on the plugs. I have them at .038.
I dont think i want to drill holes in the cap.
Might let moisture in.

I had tried .045,tried a new cap with holes drilled but went back to .035 after the melting of the cap again.

Im going to be changing out the brake lines in the Cuda. The pedal is still a little spongy after bleeding. It still has an old rubber line from a bulkhead fitting to a T on top of the rear end housing. There are also 4 or 5 compression fittings throuout the system. Does anyone run -3 37* flares on their cars? Just interested in pros and cons of this compared to double flares.

Bobby I had -3 AN stuff on my altered, no issues ever,
easier than the double flare crap too,
it was only 2 lines {back Brakes only} braided steel with a Teflon liners

made hard lines a few times too, easy peasy...
Just need the proper tools a little practice

you can get appr. tubing {prefer Stainless} for it &
even use compression style {Aviation} AN tubing sleeves/fittings
in it still too IIRC

I've the 440 source dist, cap and rotor going on the 4th year, over 300 passes. It 's never given a problem or burned up. MSD Pro Power coil, MSD 8mm wires, NGK plugs, MSD7 AL2. Just changed plugs after 280 passes. Car went 9.12@147 last time out.

Distributors dont like me for some reason.
I dont know why the cap burned, but it did. So far, my best luck has been with a stock Chrysler unit.
