Waking up the beast

Run hard,
Win hard,
Lose hard!
I'll just have to make it better.

Meziere water pump.
Weld and machine?
Damage extends 3.76 mm down.

I wonder if the lack of any grounds on the car caused this.

Wow, haven't seen that before. I think you almost have weld it, or maybe send it back to miezere for a rebuild?

Aluminum? Easy fix if it is. Gouge out the corrosion to clean material. Heliarc just above level and machine flat.

Electric pump would cause the arcing between the two halves causing electrolysis leading to the corrosion. Make sure the bolts don't have any paint and or anodize under them when reinstalling?

Just had a thought The pump has a ground wire but if it isn't heavy enough the block is a better ground. Electricity takes the path of least resistance. Contact them and I'll bet they've had the problem before.

Over the summer I had problems cranking the engine over.
On an off weekend, u was going to check and clean all the grounds on the car.
SURPRISE !!! There were none!
Installed one on the head and one on the starter bolt.
Gauges worked better and tbe car started easily.
Wondering if the lack of any grounds possibly led to this.

From what I understand, they recommend grounding to one of the water pump bolts.

It might have before you added the grounds.

Have you ever noticed how the factory placed grounds the way they did to prevent arcing through the engine, body, frame.
This engine has been in this car for about 12 years.
Only 90 passes on the combo until I put about 130 on it this year.
I guess Im finding the weak spots.

Thats putting it mildly! You'll get it back to square one again. It's not a 2017 model.

Your car brings back memories for me. When I was 18, I did some trading with cash and had bought a '68 red, black interior, fastback, formula S, 383, 4 speed. Had some fun in that car!

The only thing missing was a crystal ball to tell me what it would have been worth today!

Not sure any of this will help you now...

IMO good grounds are essential,
I go overboard, if there is a problem
the easiest path of resistance, it seeks ground
when you have an electrical issue, more grounds short paths...

I always do
chassis to engine
engine to body
body or chassis to alt. housing
battery to chassis/body
ignition body ground to body/chassis
it's all cheap insurance,
less dielectric BS too that way...

I like to use dielectric grease on all connections & grounds...

good luck Bobby

I am going to use your ground point list a a guide. Good post. I bolded some hard core truths of the nature of electricity in your post.

I agree with budnicks, I have ground wires all over the place on both my cars. I think it prevents a lot of issues.

That's how it looks outside here in Michigan today also. Hard to believe it was 75f Friday and I was riding around with the windows down.

72 here yesterday.
Today, not so much.
4" of snow 32* and 30mph wind.

I was out cruisin' in the vert yesterday !
