Dropped the pan today, here's what I found...The fluid looked real good, very little metal dirt in the bottom of the pan or on the plug magnet so that's a positive...what do you think I'm looking at in terms of repairs? Thanks!

Looks like the low reverse band anchor broke. Trans has to come out if that is what I’m seeing’s. Good news though they are the easiest to build.

Yup, looks like R&R time, darn it!

Bummer - removal and disassembly time it looks like. Only good news is if you had any selector shaft or other leaks, you get a chance to deal with them now.

Dang..well it was fun while it lasted

Crap this just happened to me !!!, my tranny had a trans-go shift kit installed about two years ago, the other day wanbo no reverse I've been told that with that kit is a much heaver spring for the rear servo and the stock stamped steel retainer is the weak link I don't know what broke what but my deformed servo piston retainer was laying in the bottom of the pan, along with the broken anchor. what do you guys think broke these anchors was it inferior materials ?

That's partially what mine looks like, except my piston/spring/retainer is still in place... I think 'RT K_line' is correct, the breakage is on the band itself... I can reach in there with my finger and the band just spins and flops around :BangHead: :(
Maybe mine didn't damage the piston because it happened as I was just shifting into 'R' starting to back out of the garage, and it didn't break under much power... Maybe?

WITH MINE IT FELT LIKE A CALIPER WAS STICKING , WAS AT A RED LIGHT, PUT IT IN REVERSE WAS BACKING UP A LITTLE AND FELT A LITTLE THUMP PUT IT IN DRIVE AND THE DRAG WAS GONE, DROVE TO DROP THE DOG OFF AT THE GROOMERS WENT TO LEAVE AND SURPRISE !!GUESS WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING THE REST OF YOUR WEEKEND. MANCINI RACING SELLS A REPLACEMENT BAND. GOOD LUCK BROTHER.

I broke the reverse band like that. Rolling down the hill at National trails I hit reverse instead of neutral. It was fine until I tried to back out of the trailer at the next race.
Doug.

First one looks like the band just broke , how many miles on tranny age
What was the band adjusted to

Second one looks like the factory thin retainer let loose , then broke the band ?

Yep the band broke...not sure of the mileage and the band was at the stock spec but that was awhile ago. It could have very well changed since then but there were no symptoms/slippage

band support and ends are a common place to break
not shift kit related or HD servo related- it just happens
several aftermarket supports are available
happens easier if band is adjusted loose
happens easier with "manual" valve bodies and high line pressure

I had just rebuilt my 727, installed it and drove it ONE day when the same thing happened to me. ....

And the band is in the far back of the transmission. ...the entire guts have to come out.....

If you've ever done a 727 even once it's pretty...but if you've never done any transmission work at all, it's pretty easy too!

All cleaned and painted...

Got it back in and after lots of tedious adjustment of the throttle pressure (kick down) it's been working perfectly for months now. I did a complete rebuild...around $200

The worst part of the job is removing and reinstalling. ...

I've done just one transmission in my life and that was only because the case cracked when I tried to replace the dang neutral safety switch! It was tight tight and even soaking it overnight didn't do much good. Put some grunt to it and it broke loose with a snap and thought cool, finally got it and that's when I noticed the crack. Got another case and swapped out all the parts but had a buddy there to hold my hand. This was in the mid 70's so no internet etc so my bud was my internet lol. And never knew about this particular problem until now. Looks like I'm one lucky moron because I've been nothing but hell on my transmissions over the years.....

:thumbsup:Looks good. I won't be messing with it, though...our trans guy here is waiting for me to yank it out and bring it to him(yeah, i get the fun part) He's built a few ford units for a friend of mine, and also has done Mike Gaines' transmissions as well (you might of heard of that guy!) so he knows his stuff for sure..my build will be fairly straightforward as it's behind a street 440 making approx. 475-500 HP, maaybe it'll see the strip once in a great while, but nothing serious

Which TransGo kit did you install? I rebuilt mine about 15 months ago with a TransGo TF1 (mildest kit) and so far so good. Really would not like to have the opportunity to remove it again.

The spring retainer did not let loose or deform
