In the non OEM arena, and don't mean to diss anybody here, but back in the day it was unmentionably felt chrome Crager SS wheels were for those that could not afford the all Alum AR Torque Thrust's.
I can say from first-hand experience, we did wheel swaps in the garage back then, and it was always personal taste. I never recalled a customer selecting a wheel only because it was cheaper. Oftentimes they were used wheels as well.

Rallyes are SO overdone, I used to like them but now I`m so sick of seeing them on everything I kinda hate them.

I had black cop wheels with chrome lugnuts on my A12 Superbee back in the day, I later swapped out to Aluminum slotted wheels.
My A12 lacked the decal on the hood, and with the red stripe dog dishes it was invisible. When I put centerline autodrags on it, the squirrels came out of the woodwork, wanting to race.

20" Cragar looking factory R/T Classic wheels on my 2012.
Nope. Looks Ghetto.

I never liked rallyes to begin with.Looks like

“Well we wanted to be mag wheels, but the best we can do is drill some holes in these steel wheels and kinda make them shiney by painting em silver, and adding an outer hubcap, I mean trim ring.”

Once again, Ford takes the cake for ugly/cheesy:

15"x6" wheels on the V6

17" 3 bar on the GT. Ford guys used to get mad and point out that these were the lightest factory wheels put on a Mustang in that era. Doesn't matter. Still retarded.

How about the Ford EXP from the 80's? WTF ARE THOSE!!

These particular design wheels came pre-equipped from the factory with curb rash and oxidation bubbles. 2004-??? models.

Crown Vic, if yo go back to the early 2000's, you see some spoke wheels. Older yet, more spokes, until you reach a point you see actual wire spoke wheels. The last couple years though, like 2007-2011.... Ford decided might as well put some on that look like $19 Walmart plastic wheel caps. no, those aren't caps, they paid to have someone make those for them.

Remember when Ford thought people would rather have a 4cyl. powered 2 door coupe instead of a 5.0 Mustang? Might as well put even uglier wheels on it. (Ford Probe)
Fortuneatly an actual mail in citizen campaign talked them out of it....

And of course, the Ford Taurus. Even the SHO got clad in wheels like this. Why have sporty or chrome when you can have ugly AND hard to clean?

I didn't even bother to go back and look at the 1970's cars or anything newer then early 2000's. Ford acts like they offer sporty cars but they have and will always make a horseless carriage for the masses. And I used to own a 5.0. it was fun. After I swapped half the factory drivetrain out to customize it, including stuff even like the shifter hahaha.
So they know their place, and look the part :)

I have had TQs and Road Wheels both on my old 67 but end up back to the black steel.
To me the look fits the old gal and color.
Some folks like them some don't, I'm not loosing any sleep over it.

OMG! There's so much wrong here. Wrong year wheels on the Hemi GTX, factory aluminum truck wheels on the trailer, mags on the pick up. Someones going to die for sure! Keystones friggen rock on Mopars, ask Sox and Martin.

I got hot bearings, check em and see,I think the temps about 203,come on baby do you do more than dance! Hot bearings Hot bearings!

Brakes are biggest/highest heat source in that wheel area, and what heat does not get removed by airflow has to go somewhere.
There is no upside to hot bearings, so anything that helps lower their heat soak is a plus.
Furthermore, there often is not a lot of air movement in the center of any spinning object, ie where the bearings are.

I agree. Aluminum mags, even factory truck wheels, do not belong on trailers. Especially tandems. They were never designed for the forces exerted from the trailer during a tight turn. Aluminum will crack. Usually, the studs are too short to properly torque down also.
