Where in that article did he say that Dot 3-4- and 5 are compatible? He did say "Both DOT 3-4 and DOT 5 fluids are compatible with most brake system materials..." but didn't say anything about 5 being compatible with other types.
He should also have mentioned that DOT 5 is a bad idea with anti-lock brake systems.
One point that is made over and over again is people who suggest that they are going to switch over to DOT 5 because they're afraid that a drop of type 3 or 4 will lift their paint if it drips on an inner fender. Fair enough, 'though I'd just quickly rinse it off if it spilled. But make sure there's no trace of DOT 5 around your paint booth when you're painting if you want to avoid fish eyes.
