What did you do to your Mopar today?

I changed the oil, replaced the valve cover gaskets, replaced the air filter. Now it's on to repairing my ball and trunnion universal joint.

Sanded out my paint runs with 1200 grit and cutting compound.

Never done that before.

Results are VERY encouraging.

Looking forward to starting the reassembly process.

Restored my headlight assemblies. Massive job, took about 12 hours work, but well worth it.

Stripped and prepped and coated the inside roof of the roadrunner today. Then it started raining. No garage! tarped it and kept going, till the paint fumes were strong.I'm going to replace the center section of my trunk floor soon.Need to decide on buying a two piece trunk or a one piece.

I removed the 1970 intake, confirming the original valley pan was allowing oil seepage into the intake ports. So after scraping, cleaning, and degreasing I installed a new valley pan (with blocked cross-over) and a nice used Performer 440. Weight of cast iron intake = 39 lbs, Performer = 15.5 lbs, 40% of the original.

After a 24h wait for the RTV to set, we took it for a test drive tonight. It ran a lot better without oil entering the combustion chambers!
I'm also testing the Permatex version of Hylomar around the intake ports, which is supposed to hold up to gasoline better than RTV silicone. Ultra Black everywhere else to seal out the oil.

De-greased, pressure washed, wire wheeled, rust-fixed, and painted the steering box.

Almost 4 hours, whew.

Should be ready to bolt in next time I'm at the shop.

Also took off all the masking and started bolting stuff back onto the firewall.

Need a new m/c and trying to decide if I want to switch to DOT 5.

Now's the time. Be nice not to worry about fresh paint getting ruined by a drop of brake fluid.

If you go to Dot 5, you will need to COMPLETELY get rid of former brake fluid in the brake cylinders, all lines, and Master cylinder. I would replace all rubber cups, boots, and anything that could be soaked with your former Brake fluid.
I put Dot 5 in my cars,and no problems in 10 years..........................MO

Interesting read.

Author seemed pretty anti-DOT5, and it was from 20 years ago.

Food for thought, nonetheless.

Finally had time to re install the new MSD box I just had warranteed! Took me a little bit but fired right up. Autometer gauges next..

Here's a fun article that shows some of the differences, advantages and disadvantages of DOT 3, 4 and 5 http://www.xs11.com/xs11-info/tech-...23-the-great-dot-brake-fluid-controversy.html
Seems like there is always an "expert " that can explain it all. I don't know what their motive is, but they are not always right in all cases. For instance, saying Dot 3-4-and 5 are compatable---not true. Maybe the experts should study my experience of 10 years use of DOT 5 and explain why I have had none of the negatives that they claim.
You can't always blame the product, sometimes it is user error. .................................MO
