Even if you're sick you should get a sponge bath! Getting all three cars ready for family weekend cruises. Gotta figure out where the transmission fluid is leaving the Bird and also a manifold to head pipe leak..

I changed out the OD/converter solenoids and fluid/filter in the Dakota.
Nice to have the OD working again. Shifts a bit crisper with new fluid, too.

Finally got it out of a 2 year storage and drove it home. (Not quite home yet, stopped at cracker barrel on the way but I'm about 3/4 of the way home, about another 8 miles to go to be home.
78 Fury 2 door hardtop, 55k original miles, I'm the 2nd owner from new.
I have new leafs at home waiting to get there, bought 5 leaf springs, original are 4. I had them rearched about 10 years ago, that lasted 1 season then on went the Gabriel hi-jackers. Also have a new set of wheels and tires sitting there waiting to go on. Current tires on car are dated 2004.

While waiting for a customer this afternoon I snuck in two steering box adjustments, at 10 minutes each, to take the slop out of the Bee and Darts boxes. Got them both from about a 1/5th of a wheel of slop to about 1/8th. Also had a good look at how to tackle the Superbirds leaking input shaft that decided to start gushing again after 1.5 years of leak sealer working. Got a seal on Amazon for $7 delivered Fedex next day. Now to find time to tackle it before the family Father's Day cruise with all our cars that I want to do. Also wishing those head pipe gaskets I bought from Rick would show up so I can fix that as well.

But, the new AMD floors are sealed. I also redid some sealer that was flaked off on the passemger side. Since I was there...

I'll let it saturate my garage with fumes overnight (pouring rain - I'd open a window but I don't want the humidity), then the inside gets a coat of rocker panel protector spray, and the underside gets undercoated. I have some sealer left, if the underside needs it. Gotta get it up on stands first though, and after working on the apartment all day (and witnessing what may well be a fatal accident on the way back from Lowe's)...and getting pretty damn stoned on those fumes...I just don't have the motivation to jack it up tonight.

I need to get rubber plugs, too. Looks like (3) 1/2", (3) 1", and (2) 1.75". Do those sound like the right sizes? I figure NAPA should have them, yes?

Fueled up the cars for Sunday's cruise with the kids and then thought I'd play with my new SPC alignment tool. I know why the Bee pulls right slightly now. While trying to get 3* caster and settling for 2* on the drivers side, somehow my alignment fella set the passenger side about 3 * NEGATIVE !! I thought it was the tool vial or something at first, so checked the other cars. Nope, Dart caster is 3.25 * POS on both sides. I'll get the Father's Day cruise out of the way, then put her on the 4 post with some greased plates under the tires and see if I can sort it all out.

Yeah I've got one of those alignment tools too. Works great, just takes a little bit of time versus the expensive automatic machines at the tire shops. If a guy takes his time and doesn't get in a hurry, I think you can get an alignment that is very good and comparable to the big shops.


Plus, just what you're describing that they did on your Bee alignment is why I don't trust those big shops working on my old classics anymore. I'd rather do it myself so I know what I've got when I'm done.

Sadly it was an FBBO members Son that did my alignment. Maybe we were doing too much talking vs paying attention to the machine read out! LOL

Let there be light!

New sealed beam conversion lights arrived. H1 high beam (left), and H4 hi/lo (right). Glass lens, metal reflector, E-code beam spread, should be a YUGE improvement.

I have H4 H.I.D. bulbs from my old XJ conversion lamps that I'll run in the hi/lo lights. I'll likely leave the halogens in the high side...or maybe get some LEDs at some point.

You can barely see the halogen high beams (the yellower sections) with the HID lo/hi on, but that's typical. I'll be switching to LEDs anyway, more light and less draw.

Sundown, I'll head out to aim them. Then, I won't be afraid to get caught out after dark in it!
