What did you do to your Mopar today?

Is that a paint bucket lid? That is a great idea.
Actually it's the bottom of a 5 gallon bucket. Lid might work, but I didn't have any handy. I just took the grinder to it with a cut off wheel. Did you check out the magnets to block off the axel tubes. Just the right size to fill the hole and catch a good edge. I stuffed rags in the tubes incase the magnet does not seal tightly.

Funny story. 2015ish I was working on my 62 Belvedere so I ordered the complete 2.5" kit from Jegs, including the mufflers. The car sounded great despite a drone from 2000 to 2200 rpms.

One day I had it parked in the garage and went to start it like normal. BOOM!!!#@$% Like a bomb went off. Garage was filled with smoke and my ears were ringing. I was a bit confused as I sat at the wheel when I saw the shadow of my neighbor through the haze say, " Is anyone alive in here?" Hahaha. Yes, I was. Found out one of those mufflers blew up. Tore it apart right at the folded seam. Ever since then, I have bought Ultra Flo welded. Fixed the drone lol.

The dreaded "turbo muffler". Bane of the hobby, those crimped cans. :)

I got my seats back from the upholsterer today. Saturday will be the installation, just in time for the car show in memory of my buddy on Sunday.

I just got out from under Fred. First time I've been under him in about 9 months
(as y'all know, I'm on a different petrifying schedule than most of you - body dictates
what I can do and when, with an accelerated decaying calendar).

Determined to install the k-frame to rad support brace that's been missing since I got
him a dozen + years ago (P.O. didn't quite fix everything from his little drunken front end
bonk with him one Friday night).

Well, the brace bolt hole was about an inch shy of the corresponding hole in grille vertical
brace, so the proper way to fix it was to remove the radiator, then straighten the rad support.
So much for that....
I loosened the radiator mounting bolts, then got under there with all manner of prybar this,
wood stud that and the star of the show, a baby come-along rated at 1000lbs.
I coerced, beat, pried, etc. on things until it got in the neighborhood, but I still had about an
inch left to make up, so out came that come-along (a glorified tie-down strap, really).
After several near-misses, the thing started skipping teeth, so I gave it one last mighty heave-ho
and tried to spear the bolt in, praying for thread engagement, when....
KABANG.
Come-along came apart with a bang, flying right past my ear on the way outta there.

Synopsis:
Garbage can gained yet another cheap Chinese tool, skillfully chopped into pieces.
Fred sits just like he did before all the fuss.
Brace is back sitting on the workbench - and we'll regroup to fight another day.

Hell, who knows - I might actually fix it the right way next time, right?

Happy to hear you weren’t hurt (maybe a little pride)! Stay safe out there, sir!

Very big day this past Saturday, finally got the engine installed.

Also had to of course install the torsion bars, went well but as usual was a bit of a struggle with the boots. Just used a lot of lube and luckily I'm still got some strength.

@JimKueneman got me all buzzy recently with all his work on a couple of A100 trucks. I dug out the seats that I bought from @Rat Rod Al about 3 years ago, and had my Exhaust guy modify some "off the shelf" seat brackets to fit in my A100.

Well.....I collected the truck yesterday and am really happy with the results. A bit of dicking around.....but the sliders work great. I wanted to go OE, but trying to find these near 60 year old parts for fair money is a big ask. Summit Racing Sparco seat slider kits....less than $90 a set. About 3 hours cut & welding....all done.

Now I'm making a template for a fancy padded doghouse cover complete with a zip flap for the lid. A friend's wife does auto upholstery .....so she'll take care of that. I'm also getting the seats re-covered.....washed all the grime off....but the stitching is dry and crusty. I'll touch-up the paint on the brackets later....have to finish the templates.

Hope to get it all back in about 6 weeks or so.

I got the seats back in and was able to drive the car for about half an hour to bed in the brakes. I washed it and it is now on the battery charger so it will be ready for the memorial car show for my buddy tomorrow morning.

I gave the GTX new plugs. And like always, the more I rub. The better she feels. Even the leaky valve cover seems to have re-seal. Lol. My son was helping and asked. "We changed spark plugs 2 years ago. Why so soon?" I explained the 440 is 50+ years old. And the valve seals leak a smidge at different temperatures. Thus why a couple of the plugs are darker.

Reminding him, "I'm over 50 too. And I too leak a little from time to time."

@MustangAndy
the originator of this thread, he hasn't been seen on here since 2015

I just looked it up out of curiosity...

Carry on...

Installed Bilstein rear shocks and took it for a drive. Rides nice. The 3" exhaust I installed last week is smooth. No drone, not loud. Cruising at 70 mph enjoying the engine.

Sounds like he "...movin on up, to the East Side"....... in his own BMW mind

Picked up the Xmsn from the shop yesterday. Today my original 3 spoke wheel arrived....so, of course I removed the POS Grant wheel and installed the original style. I think the car breathed a sigh of relief.

I found a really nice set of original rear bumper guard/ exhaust hanger brackets for the Charger. Usually these are cooked because of their location and mine were no different. I have a set of AMD brackets but they are thinner and, well, aren't OEM. So I dipped them in a chemical stripper at work to get any paint off, then soaked them in Evaporust. I gave them a coat of Eastwood matte clear made for bare metal.
