Fired up the fresh 340 for the first time. Smoked for 10 min then........ Perfect! I'm as happy as a coyote with a roadrunner for dinner!
Buttoned up a few loose ends, just have to hook up ps and fuel lines fill her with coolant and she'll be ready to start. :headbang:View attachment 107285View attachment 107286
I bet you didn't have the converter fully seated on the pump did you! Bin there, done that!Had to drop the tranny and TC to find out why it wouldn't spin when bolted to the engine, than bolted it back together and everything is good now.
looks sharp with those green accents... different but cool none the less
just curious, to cr8crshr/Tuck or 69a100, does it have the throttle pressure valve hooked up to the properly adjusted linkage, at the carburetor ?? unless it has a manual valve body in that transmission, it will fry the trans quicker then stink covers on ****...

lovely day went for a tour of the neighborhood with all the typical thumbs up from everyone... tinkered with a few little things, I need to get motivated really soon, install a few parts I have already, before I get stuck doing nothing but house stuff yet again, instead of spending the money on my car this year...LOL...
Yes it is, we've even played around with different lenght adjustments and no change.
Hopefully it's like a $200 fix instead of a grand.yeah I figured I would ask... time for a rebuild I guess....

sounds like the clucthes at a minimum...
Yep...Most likely they are the culprit. Yesterday we...My Brother and I...worked on tuning the engine up really good. He has a unique gift when it comes to this fine tuning stuff. Not that I cannot do it if I were to have to, it just is easier to watch and learn from him. Thanks again Bro. Any way...we got the 383 purring like a ????. I had the initial way too high...around 30 and now it is more respectable at around 18 degrees BTDC. Smoothed out really nicely and the exhaust note is just freakin' awesome. Later after taking care of some other small things I will start to drive it and see if more work is needed which it most likely will. Got a small stumble initially but that is due to the jetting/metering of the Holley 750. So...while working this and putting up with the knocking I am still having, a MOPAR acquaintance stopped by to visit. He has a 426 cross ram Dodge 440/4speed and is a retired AF mechanic. He was listening to our knock and firmly believes it is in the tranny and most likely the flex plate causing this. When I had one of my re-builds of the 383, I had a HELL of a time getting the Flex Plate off the Crank and wound up "tweeking" it while getting it off. I straightened it as best I could and it seems that maybe I didn't. There are some nicks and dings on the Flex Plate bolts and the Flex Plate itself. Any way...in the next week or 2, I will limp it up to the tranny shop...just 6 blocks away, and have them check the tranny out and the Flex Plate. I am thinking that if in fact that is the case, I will have them swap out the stock Flex Plate for a round SFI unit either 10 3/4 or 11 inches. If I go 10 3/4 I will need a new torque converter and if I go 11, I can use the one I already have. I value this chap's knowledge and opinions so I am taking his info and run with it. So as it stands right now, the tranny and flex plate are the cause of the knocking noise. Just got to get her fixed and this 1966 Ply Sat will be on the road and the tires "SMOKIN'"....:blob1:
You know it! Around this time of year I feel the need. The need for speed!:3gears:I love springtime. and it ain't 'cause the crocuses are bloomin'.
