What did you do to your Mopar today?

Last weekend decided to go after the heater pipe with a recipro-saw, that work just fine. Got the Alternator and water pump off, drained about 12 gallons of fuel the old fashioned siphon way, got the starter off. Nephew Kurt took some great videos and was a huge help as always.

Had an issue with randomly blowing the fuel pump fuse over the last week, so today I replaced the filter cartridge hoping that it was clogged.

It did have a few particles, but nothing that would hamper the pump.

Replaced the dinky wiring with a relay and heavier gauge wiring with a short run from the battery to the pump (about 3 feet).

Still kept blowing the 15Amp fuse

30Amp fuse kept it running, but you could actually feel the wiring getting warm after idling for a while.

Decided to pull the pump to see if there was anything stuck in the gerotor housing, but is was pristine.

Ran the bare motor on my jump box without the gerotor and it was struggling while pulling massive current (spark would actually fuse the wire to my jumper leads!!)

Pulled the motor apart and the brushes were fine, but the bottom bearing had a bit of play and some of the windings were toast.

Gunna call Mallory tomorrow to see if it's worth it to repair or just replace.

New one is $340 bucks online :sad6:

I re-tightened my newly repainted exhaust manifold's nuts, and then stared at it for a bit!

Does "what did you do for your Mopar today" count?

I bought an engine hoist that was modified with a 24 volt pallet jack pump and cylinder and a heavy duty engine stand. Both for $100.

OK, Mallory wants $78 bucks to repair, so I'll be sending it in.

Unfortunately, they only do fuel pump repairs on Wednesdays, so it will take a few weeks :(

In the meantime, I picked up a QF pump to keep me on the road

Finally charged my A/C. :icon_super: Now the weather has cooled! :eusa_eh: I 'guess' it was worth the effort? :edgy: End result is cooler driving...even if I don't need to run it now. :eusa_dance:

Ordered a billet rear main seal kit from Mancini to fix my leaking one. Also ordered a new Hurst shifter and rods from Brewers for my tranny, boy are they expensive. Did everyone know that a shifter for our 70 B-bodies was a one year only if you have a console, broke my heart and wallet. Now to get my son to install this stuff when it gets here. Next up is a new wiring harness when the bank account grows new leaves on the tree and YO has another 30% off sale, while wiping the sweat off my eyebrows.

New radiator!

Finished the replacement of my leaky radiator..

Put in a new Champion 3 row and a new 180* thermostat to replace the old 195* unit. Found out that the radiator that was in there was for a '67 c-body, 225 /6 ! I guess when it was rebuilt backin 2000, that's all they could find.

Removed front suspension for rebuild. Tomorrow will drop the K frame to clean and paint and to install a manual box.

After getting the K frame down it took about 4 hours to scrape off the 47 years of road grime/tar with a gasket scraper, oven cleaner and a wire brush took care of the rest.

My nephew Kurt & I cleaned up the mouse pee from the bare floors with baking soda, vinegar and about 6 pails of rinse water. We then disconnected the tranny linkages, removed driveshaft, flexplate bolts, engine mounts (yes there is a hidden bolt, total 3 on each side), pryed the engine from the bellhousing guide pins and finally pulled the 383 from the car. Oh yes, prior to that Kurt wanted to drop the tranny pan (remove lots of bolts real fast...) we ended up siphoning the tranny oil via dipstick tube and saved ourselves a big cleanup job. Great to have an eager 17 yr old around who wants to go go go on anything that can be removed and requires strength! Just have to temper him and remind him to THINK FIRST once in a while!

Got the headlight doors working on my 70 Charger.

on vacation this week, so got my us tool subframe connectors welded in. tomorrow going to tackle the rear quarter panel.

Installed a Lokar carb bracket, throttle cable and kickdown cable, glad it's done and now I get to enjoy a car that can actually use the passing gear.

Ordered my front & rear, Unlimited Fiberglass Products bumpers #PL-104 $129.99 & #PL-111 $129.99 combined total $313.00 shipped to my door & of course, Unfortunately I live in an area, where I can't get the "free shipping" that they usually offer, it would have only been $278.00 total otherwise, it cost an extra $35.00 in shipping... It's no big deal thou, I'm kind of use to paying a little more, it's well worth it, for not liven with all the big inner-city Libiots here in Calif...LOL...
