Well I didn't do it today, but Sat. & Sun.( 30-31) been trying to decide whether or not to change the radiator that came with the car (Northern CR 9606 - no longer made) Cross flow two row ( 1" tubes) 22 " core - 27" over all. When got it in 08, I think? it ran great with the 550HP engine, put the bigger motor and host of other up grades caused it to run hotter then desired, and now worked OK 30 plus MPH ( 180-190) but in traffic approach 200, Stop and go on an 85 degree or warmer day, in line to car shows etc. would get to 205, so made me nervous. Called a few company's about what they had, but never got anyone to call back. Made myself a "reverse shroud" for front of radiator, angled air entering grill area to head directlt to radiator. Helped cause now even cooler at road speeds. Car came with a curve blade electric fan that I took off rear of radiator ( when new engine dropped in) only 16," and even with a shroud would cool enough. So with new engine went back to mechanical 18" flex-a-lite steel flex blade fan. So figured I add the 16" electric to front and leave it on a toggle to use when I wanted. Thought it would only take a few hours. But a neighbor needed emergency repair to his car (brakes) so did that first. he got wrong parts first time, exchanged for correct box with half of the parts in it wrong second time! So nothing going well so far. Decided did not want to hang a 6 lb. fan from core of aluminum radiator using those push through nylon ties. Instead I used some 1" x 1/8" aluminum flat stock. Noticed the universal lower radiator hose was touching the oil pump. So while radiator was going in and out multiple times to check fit and clearances I would fix that also. Got all the "stuff" I thought I was going to need! Six hours later it's in. Will put the new speedo gear in trans for 28" tires before filling radiator with coolant. After wearing a bit of the trans. fluid that was done. Getting the fan in, clearing all the stuff in front of radiator ( my reverse shroud, trans. cooler, grill supports, burglar alarm - (which I use for a horn), wiring etc. and having it stand straight up and be less than an inch from core, wire in a switch, and yell at the car for being such a pain in the butt, I add the trans. fluid, and coolant. While warming it up to bleed air from cooling system, notice a small leak? Can't find it, figure it was "spillage". Get it to temp. verify fan works - and spinning in proper direction. Go in the house for a drink. Come back out and see a lake of coolant on the floor.
Turns out the "Old Fart" working on the car forgot to tighten the hose clamp securing the hose to the t-stat housing. So correct and refill. And clean the mess I made. Now all I need is a warm enough day to see if it all works as I hope it will. NO LAUGHING AT THE OLD GUY.
