That's when it was lightened for increased speed!
You can see the damage in the one picture.
all done except for bleeding the rear brakes and checking all bolts..had rear cal trac shock mount dropped 1 3/4" for travel,,strange double adj units..and added sliders..along with cleaning up more of sub std work from previous owner..as best i could,,was raced in this condition so should be good to go.
did not bleed the brakes because i was working on upgrading my carbs,,,,priortys u know..a little eye candy,,750 annulars with site glass float levels,and exterior secondary idle control so as the primary throttle blades stay where they r suppossed to for idle bleed control,,,because std holley float sites r a PITA...now i can get them right on....2 flats turning equals 1 jet size..as the rumor goes.

After sitting on my arse since last season, I finally got busy with some work on Lemonwedge. Ordered and received a pretty good slug of parts from Summit, and got busy in the shop this past weekend.
I’m tossing the belt driven accessories in favor of an electric water pump & fan with a new shroud. I’ll also be doing front brakes, as last year I began to notice this big sled wasn’t stopping so well. I’m also going to drag the stock radio out from under the dash and install the factory delete plate I got on ebay a while back.
No big projects, but this is how I’ve done it for a few years.... small steps eventually start to show up on the time slip.
The car should be more consistent as I’ll be able to control the temp much better. It should also be a little faster without the drag of the static 7 blade fan.......

upgrading my dash,,,lower mounts done, on to the uppers,,,who said a 1965 dash wont fit a 1963. when i was told it just needs a little triming to fit,,they were not BS'ing! lol.
LW, you'll be going into the burnout box a fair bit cooler now.

Well I'll review that both my Roadrunner and my wife's GTO are about to get a LOT of the "boxes checked". In October, at the end of the week of Cruisin the Coast, I saw one of those rare opportunities (for me) where best pricing, items desired available and on display for consideration, and my wife being willing to spend a big chunk of money all aligned.
Both cars are getting Vintage Air AC systems, Wraptor serpentine belt and accessory systems installed. I am going to have power steering for the first time, and while I orchestrated the Wilwood 4 wheel disc brakes for the GTO when we had a Quick Performance Ford based 9" rear axle assembly and UMI suspension installed, now it's the Roadrunner's turn, not for a rear axle assembly because it has the might Dana 60, but I have had a complete QA1 K-member and front suspension system for it for a year+, so I have put together a killer Wilwood 6 piston (all 4 wheels) disc brake system for it. The GTO is also getting a TKO600 5 speed that has been upgraded big time with a lot of their best goodies.
The Tripower on the 421 in the GTO has been the weak link in the performance and to a lesser degree reliability realm, and after having invested so much in a performance based rebuild of the 421, it was time to bring the Rochesters up to par. This is also their "last chance" before a 3x2 EFI system replaces them, so I sent them to a renowned expert in rebuilding and MODIFYING them for high performance applications. They just came back, so for my part I decided to replace the intake manifold gaskets with a new set and incorporate heat x-over block off plates, and Cool Carb insulator plates.
Since the heat x-over caused the paint to peel off the cast iron intake, and now that the heat x-over is blocked, I took the opportunity to repaint the intake and touch up the valley pan.

Still waiting for a parts build sheet to show up for the hemi, but there's been a warm streak lately and the paint booth door came out of the ice! (Sure won't be making that mistake again..)

This AAR hood and scoop is high quality, pretty much ready for primer and paint right out of the box. Amazing scoop/hood fit, perfect contour. Should be black by the end of the week. Maybe blue.. second guessing again, damn it.

Actually a '83 ATC 200 up close, '85 200s in back, and a '85 250sx not shown. Big Red's seem heavy and had a hi - low gearing option (and reverse) that I didn't think would be right for just blasting/goofing around on. The '83 200 is still a pretty damn large ATC, though !

Finished the Tripower installation today. The Rochesters were all modified to match them to the high performance build we did of the 421 in our 65 GTO.
The only adjustment I made was to the hot idle speed.
The GTO runs better, WAY better than EVER. Driving around through the gears is now a wonderful experience, and doing some "simulated racing" on the barren street by my house, it pulls harder than ever, but the truth of that tale will be told with time slips, possibly as soon as Tuesday.
The engine always felt "funny" when driving around, there were so many almost "subliminal" things happening, like surging, sputtering, "missing" but in no way related to the ignition system. ALL of those negative effects are GONE!

Busy today wiring up the water pump and fan. I’ve always been a wiring imbecile, but I had a friend help me devise a schematic that if all goes per plan will have the pump come on & off with the key, but also allow me to run it off the thermostat switch and in conjunction with the fan when the key is off. The 2-speed fan will run on high (23 amps) when the key / engine is on, and it will run on low (17 amps) and also off the thermo-switch when the key is off. The switch is on at 160 and off at 140, so it’ll keep things nice cool where the car seems to be happiest. I’m pretty stoked with how it’s going so far.
I also removed the stock radio and finally installed the delete plate I’ve had for a while now. Things are busy here at team LemonWedge.

Gulfport Dragway got rain all Monday night, and the Tuesday special racing was canceled...
The good news is that although my wife is working, and the GTO is her car, I have been "authorized" to take it tomorrow evening to Test and Tune night and see what it will run!
Shooting for 12.8 or better! Once the TKO600 goes in, with the new clutch disc and pressure plate, that means about 400 miles of "easy" driving to break it all in before the next flogging session can occur. That probably won't be until June or so, and I don't want to wait that long.
I'll post results once I make some runs Wednesday night.

Hey Bio what's the rear diff in that GTO. I know that with my old Camaro with the Tremec. Magnum and 4.10's I was able to run it out in 4th across the stripe posting a 11.4 @ 121mph.

Rear diff is 3.80 Quick Performance Ford 9" based setup.
I wanted to go as aggressive as possible without having my wife complain about driving in 4th at 1:1 on the highway.
Now that there is going to be a TKO600 with a .6 overdrive 5th gear, while I don't regret the 3.80, I'd probably have gone a little higher, like the 4.10 in my Dana 60.
I am certain that it will make the stripe in 4th no problem. My Roadrunner has a 26.8" tire and makes it.
