What is your favorite Ignition setup

Ray spoke we need to pay attention his is the ignition leader! (Lol, Ray is a great guy and very sharp) I really believe there are lots of good products , it all depends on quality and application . I recall guys saying their idle would clean up with a old MSD box.. The new MSD seems watered down and looks like accel parts in another color.. I personally live oem for my application points or electronic I have both and no issues the key is good USA parts will keep you on the road and off the hook!

Agree. Im hoarding a MSD box that works, that is so old it doesnt have a number designation.... just msd, and a hand electrically engraved serial number.
The quality of parts now seems to be going down faster than a vice president.

The main limitation is the cap and rotor, and the cap diameter.
Coil-on-plug or coil-near-plug like modern engines, computer controlled with crank trigger and manifold pressure (MAP) sensor is about as good as it gets, but not easy to apply to our old Mopar engines.

I like using CD ignition boxes (MSD-6AL, Crane HI-6, Sniper (holley bought Msd, so likely the same?) with the E-Core ignition coils.

ABSOLUTELY AGREE.....POINTS IF ORIGIONALITY IS DESIRED. Re the other systems that are available and often used...... Just remember what the old Chinese philosopher Confucius often said: "Fancy gizmos don't work and if they do they'll fail at the most inopportune time".......

I remember those. A mid '70's part that came out after the MSD 404BC, that Auotronics marketed outside Direct Connection. Good parts.

I am very happy with mine, tuning capabilities are simple and endless.
The only improvement I could suggest is making it a lil taller for valve cover clearance.

YES.....my last set of points lasted about 10 years.....or approximately 9000 miles.....just replaced them because of age not their lack of performance.....

I have a MSD Pro Billet Ready-To-Run dizzy in one of my Dusters. Been pretty happy with that unit for several years now - but there is no digital box to crap out. Anything made from Chineseum that might take a dump is inside the distributor...

Prestolite with dual points in the A12...easy-peazy...

Agreed Bob. I use nothing but MoPar NOS 2098244 sets. I think I have enough in stock to last me until I'm 104. A few spares in the console, a flat blade screwdriver and life is good.

AMEN......a simple and elegant solution. And a spare condenser as well..never hurts to be prepared

I did watch the engine master episode as well. Was interesting. Basically from what I got from it. was the basics ( points system ) will do just fine, until you get to higher rpms. I am sure their are exceptions but it was some good info..

That may depend on the amount of spring tension. When I used to race the car back in the 90's I never experienced point related issues, even through the traps, but a stock 440 mag puts out max hp around 5k.

Installed a mopar o-box setup about 20 years ago in my '63. The ecu crapped out once in that span of time and have a spare in the car with a ballast. I'm no guru on these systems; but if any can garner more giddy-up I'm all ears (or eyes). I know some fantastic mechanics that have stayed old school as a few here have posted. What's this say about advantages? Not a sarcastic question..

I raced a 57 chevy with a hydraulic cam, and an accel dual point distributor, in the late seventies, early eighties.
I shifted the LT-1 350 at 7500. It would have run a bunch faster if i had shifted at 6500, but i didnt know any better, and i loved the sound it made over 7000.
But my point is... the points would do that....then.
The accel point set with the garage door spring on them are long gone, and have you found a Quality condenser set lately? If i were still running points, i would grab every OLD condenser i could find.
