whats a good set of shocks

Thank you for your post....I was not trying to inniate another controversy, rather just than add some additional information and perhaps an alternative.
Since you are not too far away, perhaps we will meet at a local cruise sometime this summer....if we all get thru this Covid19 issue.

I was not either, sometimes I think I'm clear in what I say /write to others only to re-read what I wrote and realize I may have not been so clear as I originally thought.

So for us younger guys, these Super 500s you talk about, were they really popular back in the day ? I do enjoy reading what you post, very informative.
Yes once this mess is over, let me know when Decatur has a cruise.

I’ve read about a lot of happy people with these shocks. I have used both of the prior mentioned KYB shocks. They are a bit stiffer than the stock replacement shocks which I have no issue with. They are not for everybody.

Anyone using, or have any thoughts/recommendations on “Gabriel Classics”......thanks Jim
Have them on the front of my '66 Belvedere...paired with the 'Highjackers' in back. Very happy with the ride quality.

I took a test ride a few days ago and I was very pleased with the difference in ride quality. I had the cheapo blue monroe's for a couple of years which were ok, but always felt like a loose jiggly kind of ride. I replaced them with bilsteins, along with 1.03 torsion bars and a sway bar. Night and day difference.

The sway bars make a world of difference...providing you did not have sway bars before.

I thought the sway bar would mainly impact turning, which I didn't do much of yet. The front end definitely feels tighter now. Upgrades to steering is probably next on my list.

I run the Monroe's. Every classic I've had. No issues with any of them.

I put KYB's on my Swinger. :BangHead: It doesn't help that the PO put an extra leaf in the spring pack. (it looks like it came out of a truck) Ya, it rides like a lumber wagon! Someday I will replace the springs and see how it rides. I will probably need to replace the shocks too.

.....no Mc'Ds super hot coffee in hand for you.....

Take note of the KYB’s overall length extended and collapsed.

They tie things together (front to front...rear to rear). Reduces flex as well as body roll. That's why they make 'disconnects' for Jeeps to use off-road... allowing more independent suspension travel at slow speeds.
