I have been considering parting with my '68 Road Runner for some time now, and I have someone who has been bugging me for a long time for a chance to buy it. I would rather trade for another b body, as I don't need to sell, I simply want a change. I'd like to get some input as to what you floks think this car is worth in today's market.

The car is a real Road Runner (RM23H8), late build with factory a/c and decor package. The original color was sunfire yellow, but is now Omaha Orange. The original 383 has been replaced with a 70 440. The drivetrain has less than 3000 miles on it. Nearly everything has been gone through on the car and repaired or replaced as needed. There is not one speck of rust anywhere; inside outside or underneath. The car runs and drives excellent and I get compliments whenever I take it out.

Any help you guys can give as to value would be much appreciated!

That's a WIDE open question wanting someone else to put a value on your car! I'll give you my .02 cents, but I don't want you to get all pissed off because I'm more a resto or preservation type of enthusiast.

I don't like cars that have had color changes. I just sold a green car because I don't like green. Sure I could have changed colors but IMO that hurts the value and it's better to find someone that likes and appreciates it.

Lots of cars out there with "wrong" engines. Since the original's gone you did the right thing by going with a 440. You underhood detailing looks pretty good and should be a bonus if you sell.

Personally I don't like messing with the lift off hoods (unless it's an A12 car). If you've got the original hood and hinges to go with, that's a bonus.

That being said, the color looks great! The engine looks right and the wheels and stance are perfect for a kickass street car. Value? Knocked down because of color and engine I'm saying it's between a #2 and #3 which means $18,000 - $27,000. Realisticly if you ebay it I'd predict around $20-22k

In this market it is a $20K car tops. You did not specify if it was an auto or 4 speed. If it is a 4 speed you can add maybe 5%.

If the guy is in love with your car and has been chasing it for years, he may not have kept up on the declining market or may not car if he wants YOUR car.

What has he offered you for the car?

If you want a change, check the market and availability for what YOU want. You may be able to buy into what you want and not cost you any trade $$s depending on what your buyer will pay.

It is usually a GOOD thing when someone that has been chasing your car for a long time as long as he can perform on what he is taking about.

Man that is a trick question Bill.......It's almost as bad as when a fella's girl asks if those pants make her look fat.

Not going to throw a price on it myself but have seen similar cars go for $15-25K. Either way, heck of a car to part with..Looks real sharp. Good luck on your sale if you decide to part ways.

B5RT- The first pic is how it sits now, with the stock steel hood. It is an automatic, with a B&M convertor and cheetah shift kit. It has a 489 case 3.23 suregrip. Thanks for the kind words and you won't offend me with comments, I want an honest opinion of today's market for a car with a color change.
I would like to get a '70 Coronet or Bee, '70 Road Runner, or possibly a '64-'65 Plymouth.

The color change can go either way depending on the buyer. Often a color change from a less popluar color to a more popular color can inhance it's value or at the very least make it sell quicker. The purist type buyer will shun it but you car is not a canidate for him anyway because it is not original drivetrain etc.

Many, many RRs and Bees were upgraded from the original blown 383s to 440s. You car has lots of company out there and is what I call a meat and potatoes muscle
car--afforadable, and drivable without fear of hurting original engine etc. In fact, there are far more of these types of csrs out there than the SUPPOSED numbers matching, original car. Those that seek THAT car often regret it after a while as they are afraid to drive them the way they were intended for fear of blowing the original engine. Many more buyers out there for a car like yours that can be enjoyed for just what it is.

As they say "its only worth what someone else would pay"

You also stated you would trade... so I guess you selling price would need to be what you would expect to pay for the ride you would have originally liked to have traded for!

canadian opion

i dunno but i looked for about a year in b.c and alberta for a car that i wish was as nice as yours, there were lots of rotten crap that people were fighting over at the 20 grand mark, here that car would compare with cars that i looked at in the 25 and up bracket that sold...i would have been lucky to find something that nice

The quote is almost exactly what I was thinking. See what you'd like as a replacement, and if you can't get enough out of your car to buy the replacement, don't let it go. As much as you're tired of the car now, a couple of years, maybe just a couple of hours after you sell of trade, there are going to be regrets that you let such a fine old friend go. If you have a replacement already sitting there to tear into, it will sure ease the pain of it leaving as you fall in love with your new ride.
