Hello,
I was wondering if I could get some thoughts on a new clutch for my 69 roadrunner 383. Of coarse I would need 23 spline. There are soo many clutches available I have gotten overwhelmed. I would like a clutch better than stock, that would run at the strip maybe a few runs a year. One not over the top. Any thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks,MIKE

The Dual friction "Centerforce" would make you happy. The pedal push is easy as stock and will hold 400+ H.P....................................MO

The Center Force diaphragm style seems to be a popular choice. If you go that route, make sure to remove the over center spring on the pedal. I just went through your same dilemma for my Charger project and ended up going with a McLeod Borg & Beck original style. Pros and cons to both.

clutch

I wish I had a pic of the $400.00 spec clutch I threw in the trash
it had 100 miles on it.
put a $159.00 perfection clutch from advance auto parts.
no problems.

centerforce DF is a great clutch for the street. you just have to get the over center spring off without a trip to the hospital.

Why is it necessary to remove the over center spring? What type of pressure plate came factory?

Factory was Borg and beck. 3 arm. The diaphragm doesn't need the big spring on the pedal.
I have a factory original B&B in the garage, but prefer the diaphragm style. Lighter pedal to do the same pressure.

Since it is a 69 runner, it should be an 11" disc from the factory. Behind even a beefed up 383, the Zoom 30000 series is very well priced, and holds up extremely well to occassional abuse.

I ran with a 10.5" McLeod behind a 383 and a 426 MW. It was the Borg and Beck 2800 lb unit. Never a problem and even gave you a leg workout.
