A different type of air show in Wales

https://youtu.be/6TX0fUK22Kg

I love the C-130......brought to mind this oddity.....Clay Lacy coming in 6th out of 16 finishers in the 1st x-cntry unlimted air race, 15 mile course w/ 15 pylons, winnet was a Hawler Sea Fury @ 344 mph avg........Lacy avg'd 325, placed 6th..........in a DC-7, affectionately nosed w/ Super Snoopy & His race #.........Lacy narrates live, was reported lowest, & turned tighter than an A-26...........they prepared 1049
Connie to run friendly rivalry for 72 race, but like France outlawing winged cars w ridiculous restrictions, so the air race sanctioners banned
the airliners
https://youtu.be/nRMGgnFusEg

The racing airliners weren't so much banned, as not allowed any more; they already exceeded the 21,000 pound weight limit but Clay was given a waiver for 1970. Enough pilots complained about the turbulence that they were told not to race in 1971, which is too bad because a DC-7 vs. Super Connie race would have made huge history footage!

They couldn't do that these days though, one of the rules for Unlimited air racing is that the airframe has to pull six gees in a turn.

I make no secret of the fact that the Concorde is/was my favourite aircraft of all time. I recently dug up some original photos I took myself, as well as a gift from a friend in England a long time ago. I also managed to get some copies of advertising slides used for a failed Pepsi campaign in England in the early '90's from the publishing house who ran the campaign. Here is a shot of that famously short-lived paint scheme;

PEPSI_Concorde02.jpg

Apparently the paint had to be returned to the original and correct white, due to the massive heat build-up of the darker blue at supersonic speeds. So, any pics of this livery were taken in a very small time window.
I'll add more as I can scan them. :yes:

Here are some more Concorde shots - some my own, and a couple I horse-traded for.
The first pic here was when the first Concorde was ready for passengers (check out that old Ford Transit van);

This 747 in QANTAS livery was themed for an advertising campaign in Australia back in the mid '90's....I am sure I've seen it recently as well.

Years ago there was a museum in Orlando called "Wings and Wheels". Inside it they had a full sized mock up of the Boeing SST. I have some pictures of it floating around here somewhere. When I find them I will scan them for you.

Cool pictures !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Inside a Hamilton Standard DES 3D40 600 hp prop hub I love these parts....the part in oxide is the cam gear for a smaller Ham', 2 B20.....like a Cessna 195 would use. The 600hp on bench is being modded for an AT-6.

Im curious if any would be interested in seeing the shop and breakdown of procedures and numerous types of props. This is mostly GA singles to mid size twins....400 series Cessna....Beech King Air, but a Twin Beech now & then.....GA. if a handful are interested, ill start a shop thread, try to post the more interesting stuff.....theIMG_20160228_122721.jpgIMG_20160228_122327.jpgIMG_20160228_121600.jpgIMG_20160228_121411.jpgIMG_20160228_121115.jpg car projects are here, & the sculpture.
PM me if any interest. bc

I'd watch a prop blade thread with fascination, go for it. Whether something new, vintage, military, aluminum or wood and brass I like all props.

And extra points to you if you show us a contra-rotating prop hub. :)

'Kay....its a date.....knock heads with Paul & get facts straight......this Ham is a good one to document since its being modded, blades get shaved & repitched, some internal tweaks to hub. ill start running it in a couple days, will call
for shop....Aero Propeller Company & sides......
We dont have a counter rotating set up, but a DC-3 dome assembly is an interesting set up....the cam gears are works of art in any Ham', but when they are together in the dome, its astonishing always, to me.....never tire of this stuff. New theme with the sculpture displays is to thread intricate internal parts through out the art ensembles.......Aluminations is dedicated to the Unsung Heroes of the Trades.......Graceful Shapes to present God's
Light.....a reflective thing.......so o/h pix thread soon........Thanx.......j

tradewind.jpgSpeedy sea plane...the Convair R3Y Tradewind. With four turboprop engines putting out 5,100 hp. each through contra-rotating props, it was good for a little over 400 mph.

As a refueler, it set a record by tanking up four Cougars at the same time.

Here's some vintage pictures a friend scanned & emailed to me...
